I believe Buetzer is planning on running the Albin Solstice now. And, yeah, four-time B-Stock champ vs. a three-time C-Stock (and 2-time E-Stock) champ is going to be one to watch.

Road racing is burning up the time and money (just got back late last night from the Thunderhill double natl) so Jennifer and I will just rent/beg/bum whatever. I think I have secured an RX-8 for her to run CSL in for SD and Natls. I have a ride for the SD tour, AS C5, but no idea what I will do for Natls. I don't think I will have time to tow back to natls this year, and developing the H Prod car is enough of a project, I don't need to work on a Solo car also. I accomplished more than I could have dreamed of in BS, I don't see much point in going back, time for something different...

ST
STS
STX

are still pretty cheap. People whine about the costs as the level of competition has pushed the average prep level closer to the edge, but still my car won as much on the revalved sports as it did on the $1000 SPSS3's and it hasn't won anything on the nearly $4000 2812's. Yeah a couple of guys have Moton's in those classes. A couple of guys have $1500 headers. A few are willing to turn 8K+ rpm risking motors. A few have multiple sets of uber expensive rims. But if you go through the trophies at Nationals, you could still get wood from a $5-$6K ST/STS car. Its still possible with judicious budgeting and lots of work and immense amounts of driving skill. Is it really that bad.

I throw way more money at my car than I should or I need to. But hey, I'm compensating....

The only thing I can see is a single combined class for the cheaper low powered econo boxes on street tires. Combining like HS and GS (doesn't help Kurt). Theory being the heavier and better powered GS, give up that advantage over the underpowered lightweight HS cars. Maybe ES, but I think the MR2's would kill. I don't think you'd want any AWD cars in there. We have too many classes now. And forget indexing a class, not going to happen outside of Pro Solo.

I don't think this is doable, but that's the approach I'd be brainstorming. Some way to make a single cheap class. Promote it as a stepping stone class. Or a Junior ST with 6" rim max and stock engine rules, but bars and springs. Single adjustable shocks/struts only. Stock seats. No wings. The wheel width helps even the street tired playing field so the DS mini's can be included. Play out ideals like this that work towards allowing truly streetable, truly smogable, trully cheap cars to compete at a national level.

And @Jeff Mega zoomie Struts are all the rage.... Even more expensive than the shocks.

Finally someone just coming out and saying it!
So u think ,we all think that way???
Not all, but I think a good majority.
I have a feeling (no data other than what I see at local events) that the vast majority of Stock on street tire drivers have not even come close to taking full advantage of the rest of the Stock category allowances.

While we are being honest...I can only outdrive a few, and can only out-budget fewer still. I need new people with low budgets to enter national classes so I can get a trophy every now and then. ;)

I don't know where you got this idea or what it could possibly be based on, but it couldn't be more wrong. Those shocks will *transform* your car. And I've been driving a strut-endowed HS Civic for the last 2 years with pretty good success.

Based on a misunderstanding, just disregard that comment.

It's probably obvious to most reading this thread that I don't know enough about working on cars. I'd love to learn more about it though, feel free to find me at an event and set me straight (anyone!).

An aside here, in case nobody has noticed. Jeff is doing a helluva job driving an underprepped car that isn't even on the radar for car to have in the class.

As a matter of fact I have noticed Jeff and his Cougar. I've even made a comment or two about the driver not the car while announcing. The fact that he's so new is even more impressive.
