2010 FSAE CA Volunteers Needed!

Post by Christine Grice »

It's that time of the year again!

June 16th - 19th.
The skidpad, acceleration and autocross wil be held on Friday June 18th.
The Endurance event will be held on Saturday June 19th.

We are looking for volunteers for the FSAE California event. If you have never been to this event in the past, you are missing out on some interesting racing and engineering designs. You can volunteer for one day or both days. We need a lot more people for Saturday's endurance event so if you can only make it on Saturday then thats OK!

Email Karen Stewart at formulasaewest@gmail.com to get your name on the volunteer list.

Count me in for Friday and Saturday! I would like to do timing for skid pad and master radio for autocross and endurance, if possible.

Bump up as a reminder!

Here is an really well done promotional video for the South Dakota School of Mines and Technologies (SDSMT).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rc_vVEiasY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And one from University of Washington.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQ5xvVwX ... re=related" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Both these teams will be at FSAE California, and if they already have videos of their cars then they have a good chance of having a well sorted race car by competition time.

Email Karen Stewart at formulasaewest@gmail.com to volunteer.

One month until the event! The FSAE Michigan event just happened this last weekend at Michigan International Speedway. Looks like there is a lot of good competition this year, they had 50% of the teams who started the endurance event finish this year, which is a record for that event.

For FSAE California it looks like we need at least 5-10 more volunteers for Friday and 20-30 more volunteers for Saturday. If you only have the time to volunteer for one of the days that is perfectly fine! I will be posting the current volunteer lists in the next two weeks so that everyone can double check that their names are on the lists and your volunteer packet will be ready at the registration desk.

Thank you!

Email Karen Stewart at formulasaewest@gmail.com to get your name on the volunteer list.

So now we are only 2 weeks until the start of FSAE California!

Here are the worker lists that I have so far:
2010_accel_SP_100602.pdf
(5.56 KiB) Downloaded 296 times
2010_autox_100602.pdf
(3.85 KiB) Downloaded 332 times
2010_endurance_100602.pdf
(11.82 KiB) Downloaded 325 times
The Acceleration, SkidPad and Autocross events are on Friday June 18 and the Endurance event is on Saturday Jun 19.

If you have volunteered, please check the lists for your names. I you volunteered and then needed to back out, also check the lists for your name. We would would rather know if we need to fill in any spots rather than be surprised on the day of when you don't show up :shock:

We are working behind the scenes to organize a Thank You Gift for our volunteers. Tenative plan right now involves K1 tickets or movie tickets :thumbup:

Thanks guys!

I will be at the site in the morning and John Fendel is setting up the autocross course in the afternoon. So the answer to "when?" is really any time after like 9am.

Mark: 2:30ish is fine, come on down and help.

I volunteered last year. It was fun to see all the cars that the college kids had created. Each car was unique. The teams were from all over the world. Each team put their heart and sole into designing these cars and getting ready for the event. Some teams had drivers that had put in much seat time after developing their cars while some teams finished their cars right before the event and didn't have much time to practice.

I recommend volunteering for the event.

I will be there on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Look for me, I am helping Karen but during the afternoons I am not too busy. Also, Jason Dovel will be there Saturday I believe Karen said he will be doing the endurance. Sorry I've been MIA but we have the car out of service, some unnamed person decided to put turbo on it. We finally have that on but still got to wire up the power boost and tach adapter. Oh what fun! See you there 818 434-8593

Let the games begin!

The student teams are registering this morning and going through tech inspections this afternoon. Tomorrow (6/17) they paticipate in the Static Events which include Design Judging, Cost Presentation, and a Sales Presentation. There is a lot more to this event than just racing. 8-)

We have had some last minute volunteer cancellations so we will be accepting day-of walk ups for both Friday and Saturday. If you have a free day, come out and join us! We are giving out K1 Speed Passes as a thank you to our volunteers.
Volunteers should plan to arrive at the Auto Club Speedway of Southern California, 9300 Cherry Avenue, Fontana CA 92335 approximately 45-60 minutes ahead of the scheduled start of their event to allow time for parking, registration, and shuttle to the infield. Plan to wear safe shoes (closed toe and heel) and long pants for dynamic areas. Hats and sunscreen are highly recommended for everyone. Water, morning coffee, and lunch will be provided to volunteers beginning Thursday.
A schedule of events can be found here: http://students.sae.org/competitions/fo ... hedule.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
