Re: SCCA Wendover ProSolo (Rd 3) Results
Ha ha. What the morning didn't show was that I red-lit 0.497. That run would have given me over a 1.5 sec. lead. After afternoon runs, I'm slightly more than one sec. ahead. I'm also ahead of a lot of fast classes.Mako Koiwai wrote:Bill - Congratulations on another Xcellent 2nd Place!!!!
Funny, I didn't see your name among the leaders, Mako. Or even in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th place....

What happened to the Sololive website? It was (mostly) working until mid afternoon. Now I can't even reach it.

Sounds like I just need to get on your co-driver waiting list!Funny, I didn't see your name among the leaders, Mako. Or even in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th place....

Obviously ... not even Just Kidding! But I was a Winner today at Willow Springs where Karen proclaimed me the Best Possible Pit Boy! :gpower:

Oh ... one more day to go. Should have realized that when I saw Ken "temporarily" in 4th place! Go Bill Go ... and Steve and all the rest of our CSCC drivers ...
(... freezing at Willow Springs. Karen moved up to HPDE 2 and Matt Thiemann to HPDE 3. The new GoPro HD is working GREAT. Got to go past the Defaults to get the best HD quality.)

I will be sure to bring lot's of tools and spare parts next time.
Huge thanks to Mike Smith and Mike K. for all the help and encouragement.
Thanks Tom, Aaron, Eric and Mike S for tools and suggestions for issues with my car.
Will thanks again for the driving tips, most people don't like to give tips during competition, I really appreciate it and learn something completely new.

Re: SCCA Wendover ProSolo (Rd 3) Results
A lot of unnecessary cones made it hard to see for sure. Course was pretty fun to drive in a Civic. It looked like maybe a little painful for a larger car in two spots. Really hard to get right the last 60% of the course. I drove the last half well once or twice....After I'd already trashed the first half. I guess 6 tries per side wasn't enough. If we could have rested on the first run (43.1-left)Sat morning I would have been in great shape. ;) I was hoping for rain and snow after that.
STX battle was insane to watch with Heyward Wagner, Will Kalman, Karl Coleman, and Mihai S. swapping the lead around like the proverbial hot potato. Quite a show. Too bad Mihai was loosing boost or the results might have been different. Will doesn't need much time to learn a new car! But he needs to recalibrate the rear track width in his internal ECU....
Ladies action was ridiculously good as always in Wendover. Though Christine rudely stomped on the superstars of L2.
Challenge was a blast. Thomason was impressive. Gee, imagine that. ;) Watching Andy Hollis and Gary Thomason go head to head in the final is about as good a match up as you could script. Will Kalman takes 3rd (he can drive too). Too bad to see the BerryMobile snap an axle in the challenge. Tom was clearly in the lead when decided to bring it back to the trailer. Would have been interested to see what one more master gunslinger would have added to the final mix. Kevin Youngers was 4th, another experienced ProSolo fighter. Good stuff. I planned to head home ASAP, but... HOW DO YOU LEAVE THAT ACTION???? When Will beat Heyward in the revenge match first round we had to stay for more.
As always you either bake or freeze in Wendover. And regardless of the temps, you'll be blasted by the wend.
Way home..... SCARY SNOW. It really came down hard on us near McGill. Near whiteout. Then cleared nicely in Ely. I was really worried about heading over the 7436 foot Murray Pass on 6 just out of Ely. I didn't realize Ely was 6600 feet though. After talking to locals and realizing the pass was only 800 more feet and with clearing skies we headed out and the pass was fine. Snow on the ground though for about a 100 mile stretch. Light snow at times, but never like near McGill. Good news was the winds I worried about from Ely all the way home (advisories warning of mid-70mph gusts) never arrived as we went through.
Our trailer had a structural failure in the rear bulkhead going up. Tiedown straps seem to keep things in place. That was scary and stressful. The metal frame around the rear ramp door is seperating from the body of the trailer at the top. I can't see the top attachment points. On the bottom it is both welded and bolted. I can't imagine the bottom could fail. The top is a mystery til we do some disassembly to access it.
Wendover is ALWAYS an adventure.

Re: SCCA Wendover ProSolo (Rd 3) Results
I think this release from Toyo covers it all.
May 24, 2010
Ken Motonishi Wins at Wendover on Toyo® Proxes® R1R™ Tires
WENDOVER, UTAH – As the 2010 SCCA® ProSolo® National Series made its way to Round 3 in Wendover, Utah; Ken Motonishi of Chino Hills, California, showed he was still in winning form. Piloting his 2009 Mazda MX-5 equipped with Toyo Proxes R1R extreme performance tires in the STR (Street Touring R) class, Motonishi won by a cumulative margin of 2.139 seconds over the runner-up competitor. This is Motonishi’s second ProSolo win out of three races during the season, as he won Round 1 in El Toro, California.
“It was expected to be a tough event given the cold weather forecast. In other words, perfect for the Toyo,” said Motonishi. “Given the circumstances I felt pretty confident going into the event. I knew the tires would give me the edge given their ability to provide excellent lateral grip right out of the box. Combined with their ability to launch at the start, I felt my odds were truly on my side. Fortunately I was able to drive well.”
Since its release in 2007, the Proxes R1R has become the tire of choice for many autocrossers around the country. In addition to consistent performance weekend after weekend, the tire has won several championships in ProSolo and Solo competition.
To learn more about Team Toyo® drivers and the full line of products from Toyo Tires, the brand voted #1 overall by independent tire dealers across North America*, log on to toyotires.com. Toyo Tires manufactures and distributes a complete line of replacement tires for high performance cars, luxury vehicles, light trucks and SUVs as well as tires for commercial trucks, buses and off-road and construction applications.
