I took the 57 not the 15 south this time, but the wind dropped off dramatically as I went South. It was pushing me pretty good going West on the 10 though, maintained 76mpg on the prius @70-75mph.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:Wow wind's that bad up there. Just breezy down here in Corona.
Towards start time my bear legs were starting to get the sand blasting, which I find is typically beyond the cone stability point.

Wow! I'm just 5 miles west and not a hint of wind.

I hung around and went into the Redline Time Attack thing. Very boring.
I hate to say it, but the winds died down a lot in the couple hrs after everybody left.

Was that inside the track or outside. Very different.David Crandon wrote:I hung around and went into the Redline Time Attack thing. Very boring.

All honesty well I would have liked have run, I think the right choice was made. The rationale was that among others the plastic cars didn't want to hit doubled up cones and brake something. I think more to the point, it would have been unfair to the work crews on course to be getting trash and sand blasted well trying to do thier job and stay safe. I could have filled my cats box with the amount of sand I poured out of my gear before loading it back in my car.
I think the No$ crew did a nice job of setting up what will prove to be a great course tomorrow.
My only hope is that someone puts water in the sinks and ice chests.

Re: No$ Practice Cancelled because of High Winds
Thank you to everyone for the support on the difficult decision I had to make. This was a
"freak" Santa Ana windstorm and after discussing the situation with the Safety Steward, it was decided to cancel the practice. My main concern was both damage to cars and difficulty of flying trash, et al. for the workers on course.
I did take a lot of heat for the decision which totally upset me. I would like to remind those who felt my decision was unworthy that this practice was a NO BUCKS practice and we have the right to cancel the event, contrary to what some people believe.
A big thanks to all the No Bucks people who showed up very early in the morning to set up and especially a HUGE thank you to Yuki for all her work in getting the practice registrtation in order.
Again, my apologies for the cancellation but I felt it was the best decision for all.

Re: No$ Practice Cancelled because of High Winds
It is entirely up to the safety steward and event chief to make these decisions. It not is not done lightly. Double-stacked cones can damage cars and are potentially harder to replace. Flying debris and blowing sand can be hazardous to workers and wreak havoc with the timing lights.
Keep in mind we run year-round and in the rain, so the rare cancellation is no reason to bitch at the officials.

As a newbie for my first CalClub autocross, I was disappointed of course, but I completely respect your decision.
But I don't quite understand how it worked out that way. We all (or almost all) voted to continue the event. Then 20 min or later, we decided to cancel. What "changed" in that 20 minutes? Was it that the people who originally voted to keep running didn't realize that we would then double cone the track?
Just curious.
Thanks to everyone for being helpful to me as a newbie. Especially Renee, Yuki, Art, Lisa, and a couple that owned a Mustang for which I've forgotten their names (sorry).
Re: No$ Practice Cancelled because of High Winds
When dirt starts to sandblast your legs and prevent you from looking up, workers are in danger. Renee made the right decision. Like she said, it's a democracy up to a point, but then The Man (or The Woman) needs to make a tough decision. If the decision were left up to the drivers, we'd run under any conditions, but sometimes we need to be reined in and brought back to reality.David Crandon wrote:As a newbie for my first CalClub autocross, I was disappointed of course, but I completely respect your decision.Renee Angel wrote:Thank you to everyone for the support on the difficult decision I had to make.
