Time Trial
Someone at the Divisional was talking about a Kart track in riverside or somewhere out that way that one night a week opens to cars instead to do time trials? This ring a bell with anyone. Looking for the name and website.
Thanks

Re: Time Trial
Adam's Kart track... never been. Seemed to be geared towards the 'Fast 'n Furious' type from what I've read.

Re: Time Trial
I know it's been done there and in fact we even did an event there before we were SCCA (pre 1985). But having driven my kart there, I can't imagine it being that much fun except for really small cars. I felt it was kinda tight in the kart compared to some other kart tracks I've driven.

Re: Time Trial
Thanks guys. Looked at a couple of video's very small margin for error, what's even a little more scary is the stacks of tires they use for the chicane. Nick one of those and your going to be on first name terms with a body shop. Doesn't look like the venue for a Corvette.

Re: Time Trial
I have driven it quite a few times, and my Fiat is the widest autocross cars running SCCA National events (79" on 295 A6 with the required 5mm front spacers to clear the unnecessary gigantic calipers), it also has one of the longest wheelbase and total length (except that Tacoma pick-up running H-stock). Bottom line, the Fiat is too big for that Go-kart track.
However, it is a safe and nice venue. You pay $20 for a one hour slot where you get 9 to 12 laps in 3 or 4 sessions. Each session is half a lap warm-up, 2 full laps, and half a lap cool down. They run cars on Tuesdays from 6pm to 9pm.
I have run the Fiat and the Cayman on street tires, and the Fiat on A6. Per my traqmate data, average speed is 42.8 to 45mph which is about the same as the last Divisional Awesome autocross courses. The Cayman S reaches 73mph and the Fiat 82mph max speed, so it is not that slow. The only slow turn is a hairpin taken at 20 mph, all the other turns are taken at typical autocross speeds (30mph-50mph).
It is pretty safe, I have seen cars driven by rookie drivers going off (really off and out of control) and causing no damage to their cars other than rubber marks, but if you drive way beyond the limits and smash your car, it is up to you, you could do the same on public streets. The videos on their website make the track look very narrow, but it is not, they just need to shoot with a wide lens to get a better perspective.
Personally, I have taken down the tire chicane twice with the Fiat, and once with the Cayman, and it left rubber marks easier to remove than the cone marks from the typical autocrosses. Average laps are in the mid 40s to high 40s, the record lap is a 43.2 secs I ran a 43.5 with old skinny A6 in the Fiat. The Cayman can't break the 45.4 (on RE-11), and I can lap within 0.2 secs during 8 laps (pretty consistent line).
No work assignments, as they have a hired staff, and great venue to test and tune your cars and your driving on Tuesday afternoons. I have seen a few SCCA and PCA folks at that place. They run no more than 30 cars per 1 hour session, to guarantee at least 3 sessions (9 full laps, with 6 of them timed). They run timing and you can check your lap times at the end of a session.

Re: Time Trial
Ranaldo, are we talking the same Fiat I was parked next to at the Divisional? I know your a way better driver than I am, forget the deeper wallet, but really it fit? You mention Tuesday afternoon's do they run then as well or only evenings?
In your experience do they turn many cars away?
Thanks, if you have any in car video's would appreciate if you would post one.
Thanks

Re: Time Trial
Jason and I used to "instruct" there for about 2 months. We realized it was pointless because everyone there is madz JDM tyte yo and think their canyon running skillz are far superior.
It was a great place for testing and helped out a lot last year with developing the cars. They only turn cars away if you showed up too late to register. Try to be the first cars there so you can run while there is daylight/heat still.

Re: Time Trial
I have not run any of the "events" there, but we have done a private rental of the track on a number of occasions. The rates are very reasonable, and you can set up a configuration that best suits your needs - having the place to yourself also means no JDM canyon carvers, or ST Honda drivers.

Re: Time Trial
You will have to call and get a rate for yourself, for the type of event you want to do, and when you want to do it. We just rent it by the hour during the week, works out really well for what we do.Arthur Grant wrote:Define reasonable?
