Recently I was surprised to findout only the best 6 finishes in Novice count towards you final season rank. Thus my strategy of attending more events than my competitors washed out. Howeve is the 6 event rule true for all classess. is that why the points chart show scores with 1, 2, or 3 drops?
Inquiring minds want to know why updates to the points dont trip the date stamp for the entry. It still reads 15 February so you actually have to open the document to see if it has been updated?

All classes are governed by the 2010 Supplemental Rules and Regulations. The number of drops is defined in Appendix D for all classes except Novice.Arthur Grant wrote:Recently I was surprised to findout only the best 6 finishes in Novice count towards you final season rank. Re: Points
Because Christine probably just updates the .pdf files themselves and not her post. If you need to know your standing RIGHT AWAY, it's not that hard to figure out your points vs someone else after Rick posts the final event times - the formula is in the supp regs. Other than that, the year-end points are updated fairly quickly; I usually don't check them until the week of the next event.Arthur Grant wrote:Inquiring minds want to know why updates to the points dont trip the date stamp for the entry. Re: Points
George and QV are right.
If you look at the points files every class has 1, 2 and 3 drops, and soon to be a 4 drops column because it looks like this year will qualify for 4 drops. (haven't gotten around to updating the spreadsheet yet). Except novice's column headings are different. They currently show 4, 5 and 6 drops (also needs to be updated)
The date stamp is from when I originally made the post on these forums giving the location of the points. It does not update every time I post a new pdf. I guess I could edit that post every time I update the points if it is realy confusing people, but if I forget then I apologize in advance because there are a lot of steps to the process.
And by the way, you strategy is not fully washed out. The more events you run in novice, the higher your chances of getting 6 really good event results. It's like letting you make up for those first events where you were still trying to figure out what the heck was going on.

Re: Points
Art, being in a year long struggle is what makes this sport extra exciting for me. In fact I don't get the folks who don't participate in our Championships. Although money issues of course always trump everything, as well as, "Been There, Done That ... national events are all that matter to me now." And now, half way through the season I can already concede SS to Tom D.

Re: Points
I don't understand your thinking here. The more events you participate in, the more chances you have of getting a final higher point total as your worst events get dropped and your best events are kept. If we run 14 events in Novice, then your worst 8 are thrown out. The system rewards improvement and most novices are faster by the end of the season than when they started. You won the last one - you just need three to catch Justin's total wins to date and we've still got several events left.Arthur Grant wrote:Recently I was surprised to findout only the best 6 finishes in Novice count towards you final season rank. Re: Points
Hey Art,
I changed the way I showed the Novice total points in the latest update of the yearly points. Take a look at it and tell me if that makes it less or more confusing.

Re: Points
The supps do indeed state that the novice season points are based on the best 6 events for each driver, which is not the same as the way points are calculated for the other classes (with drops based on the number of events).
My guess as to why is that because you can only be a novice with CSCC if you have participated in less than about 1/4 of a season, and people don't necessarily join at the start of the season, then you have to allow people who start halfway through the season to have a shot at the trophies, because they won't be eligible next year.
Contrast that with San Francisco Region, which allows you to run in novice class unless you've run at least 1/3 of the previous year's events -- and they also split the year into two "seasons", a 14 event championship series and a 6 event winter series. If you join up mid-year, you at least have a chance for a winter season trophy. SFR does the novice points and drops the same as the other classes.
