Here is what he sent to me ... he obviously deserved it. A LOT of work goes into these labors of love
Hi folks,
I'm really happy to say I won a Los Angeles EMMY tonight for a story that I fought hard to get done: A Soldier's Story. The story of the dramatically increasing number of homeless female vets wasn't being told anywhere when I first heard of it. Karen Foshay, Val Zavala and I teamed together to get this story told. We profiled one of those women: Angie. But it was a hard sell. Every aspect of the story was an uphill battle. But it got told. A few months ago this story also won a Gracie Award.
Karen won 3 additional EMMYs tonight for other stories she did , giving her a clean sweep over the other KCET producers. So in a way, Dateline made a good showing at the LA EMMYs (Karen's a former Dateline producer for those of you who don't know her).
And I only make a big deal out of this because this story, Angie's story, really needed to be told. And it feels good to beat the odds.
