X Games Rally Cross

Post by Mako Koiwai »

WHO Was the Idiot who came up with this X Games Rally Cross competition ... half of the field got eliminated because they got lost on course ... there was almost one high speed head-on collision. Even the Gold Medal final race was decided because one driver got lost ... even after by now having driven the course at least a couple of times. One of the drivers said "We're Not Idiots," ... so Who Was The Idiot that came up with such a convoluted course design?!

No real co-drivers when they could have finally have made use of them. Instead Starlet Reporters ... the one riding with the fellow who got knocked out of the Gold said it was hard as "co-driver" not to tell him which way to go!!!

I saw it too. The whole event was quite lame. Didn't the champ (Tanner Foust) basically inherit the final win because the other guy DNF'd due to the screwy complexity of the course? (Sounds a little like autocross on a bad day!)

Didn't I hear that part of the problem is that they'd change the configuration throughout the competition, so they couldn't really get to memorize it, or worse yet, have the previous configuration in their mind?

Agreed; stupid event runners that came up with that idea. Or, if you want that challenge, then let them have co-drivers! Think someone said the event use to have that and next year they'll have to bring them back.

What a crappy way to determine the gold medal winner!

Literally the Worst Sporting Event I've Ever Seen On TV ...

Haven't watched the Super Rally Cross yet ... with wheel to wheel competition ... DVR ... but first have to watch the Hungarian GP

Saw INCEPTION tonight ... so weird, the Forger looks just like Jenson Button ?!

There's some major dissappointment with the Super Rally too, the final is decided by a mis-informed flagger.
I did love seeing two cars hit the jump nose to tail though, Awesome.

The first part you watched Mako is not called Rally Cross just Rally Car Racing. The second event is called Super Rally.

I warned the Subaru team on Wed. morning that the space available on the incline and the course design did not work.
Original design had them attempting a pin turn on the uphill incline with about 30 feet of lane. Some drivers had to use reverse in practice. Nasty.
They changed the layour 3 times yesterday during practice/seeding, the drivers never had a chance to see the final layout, and the course marking or lack of did not help either.
One point to be made though, if you are getting paid to drive, you better show up prepared, they did have time to go out and memorize and visualize the course from a distance.
Subaru had a terrible mechanical day, transmissions(new sequential ones), and motor(s) too. I'll be talking to the team manager in person later today for more insight.

The overlaid driver position bar at the top of the screen was going nuts during the Super Rally final!

Yeah wasn't that the weirdest broadcast screw-up?

I'm still not sure what happened ... our DVR stopped with the leader doing Win Spins ... but apparently the flagger gave the finish flag a lap too early ?!?!?!? ... and not everyone had done the "Joker Jump" ... there stupid name.

I didn't understand the start, too. What actually triggered the start? It always looked like someone was jumping it - Block during his heat in the first rally event (then stalling) and Foust at the Super Rally final.

Facing the start line was a set of red lights that would light up and then shut off. When they shut off is when they launched.
They were a good distance away on the BIG air ramp backside.

I wish I could get my $ back for that lame event. It was pathetic, almost every race decided by who managed to not get lost on the course. Plus the turn around at the bottom of the hill really seemed to leave the cars bogging down and the drivers trying to figure out what gear to be in. Almost a serious head on collision too. Super rally was better, but as mentioned earlier the flagger threw the checkered flag one lap too soon.

Really amateur hour.....

I watched it again and counted the laps. They threw the checkered flag on the 4th lap. It was supposed to be 5 laps.
I still think it was lame, compared to previous years.

X Games as a whole has been getting lamer. They used to go to different venues around the country. There used to be a bunch of other events that you'd never otherwise see on TV. Now all they have are their showcase events and stick to LA.

"Stick to LA" ... notice how many cameramen are being used ... imagine try to hire them all locally or putting them up in hotels on a "distant location."
