anyone in close proximity to Long Beach that has an OBD reader?
my little mazda has been having this really irritating problem, which is associated with a CEL.. started about 6 months ago, got a CEL while i was going down to San Diego. I kinda freaked, and drove really cautiously for a few miles, but the car drove exactly as normal. overtime, it's also shown that there's no impact on gas mileage.
the CEL will go away after a while (few weeks), and then a few weeks later, return. well, it's back, and i want to know wtf the CEL is telling me.
the ONLY thing that effects the car when the CEL with a 100% repeatability, and no problem when the CEL is off (again, 100%), is that when i gas up the car. with the CEL on, the immediate start *right after* i fuel up, the car will get to ~1.5k rpm, and then stall out. after that, I'll crank continuously for about 5 seconds, and the car will start, and everything else is perfectly fine. I can shut off the car immediately after that, and the next start will be fine.
since it's not intermittent, i'm hoping it's pretty easy fix. i've been ignoring it, but i think it's time to do something about it.. >_<
FWIW, i don't think it's the gas cap, though i guess it makes sense. the gas cap screws on normally, and doesn't seem to have any extra play. I'm hoping that the CEL code will tell me for sure.
