Newb from Long Beach

Post by Jose Martinez »

Hello all,

New guy here with a stock 08 MazdaSpeed3. I plan on attending the El Toro event on the 14th and possibly the 15th. Not planning on competing this first time around but I will be checking out the scene, hopefully getting to know a few people, and how the drill goes. Hopefully I can ride along with a couple veterans and I will offer my free labor in working the course or anywhere else help is needed.

See you all then!

Jose

Welcome Jose!

Just so you know, we have a sort of "program" for novices on championship days. You get the same 3 runs as everyone else, but you can have an instructor ride in your car all 3 runs if you'd like. You may also have the instructor drive your car during 1 run and it won't count against your normal 3 runs. We also offer a novice course walk before the first run group and also one during lunch time.

Maybe we'll see you on Sunday after all? :lol:

By all means, compete and take advantage of the instructors (their expertise, at least!). If you don't sign up to run, you'll wish you would have. Welcome, and see you out there!

FYI
If you want to get some ride alongs on Saturday and/or run on Sunday, you must check in early and get a one day SCCA membership, if you are not already an SCCA member. Costs $15 last time I checked. If you want to run on Sunday, you should pre-register and save $10 ($30 vs. $40) (Costs less if you bring your student ID.) Please chime in if this info is not correct.

Just to add to Ron's post. Your weekend SCCA membership can be applied towards the purchase of a full SCCA membership :thumbup:

And if all you are getting is rides, the SCCA weekend membership is free. It only costs when you start driving.

Registered for Saturday practice through motorsportsreg but did not see anything regarding the "weekend" SCCA membership. Should I just worry about this Saturday morning? Additionally it seems I cant register for Sunday until I have a membership. Is this correct?

The list for the practice was posted on the 4th and it was full at that time with a 30 person waiting list, so its way too late to get in. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4380" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For the Championship on Sunday, you should see the option to get the weekend membership and select that along with your registration. Payment can be made online or at the event. You will be emailed a receipt for the membership along with temp SCCA number. You need to print that out and bring it with you.

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me out at yesterday's event. I had an absolute blast. I am horrible with names but I remember faces so I will come say hi at the next event!
