Classing

Street Stock 2wd (SS2) & Street Stock 4wd (SS4):

The name Street Stock comes from Street tires with Stock preparation level. As such these classes are for cars that have limited performance modifications, and are using street tires. Street tires include those tires sold as “Passenger Tires”. Street tires do not include ice/winter specific tires (currently designated by the mountain/snowflake emblem or the words ice/snow in the tire name), light truck tires (designated by “LT” on the sidewall), or tires designated for rally or competition use. The original tread may not be modified (siped or grooved). SS2 will be for two-wheel drive cars and SS4 will be for four-wheel drive cars. Street Stock Class cars must be stock (or equivalent) with the following exceptions:

* The exhaust system does not need to be stock behind the catalytic converter.
* Replacement air filter elements are allowed.
* Computer chip upgrades are allowed.

Street Modified 2wd (SM2) & Street Modified 4wd (SM4):

The name Street Modified comes from Street tires (which in this case include ice/winter tires) with a Modified preparation level. As such, these classes are for cars that have been modified beyond the limits detailed above and are using street tires or ice/winter specific tires (currently designated by the mountain/snowflake emblem or the words ice/snow in the tire name). Light truck tires (designated by “LT” on the sidewall) are not allowed, nor are tires designated for rally or competition use. The original tread may not be modified (siped or grooved). SM2 will be for two-wheel drive cars and SM4 will be for four-wheel drive cars.

Rally 2wd & Rally 4wd:

Cars running tires that do not qualify for the "Street" classes will be placed in either the Rally 2wd or Rally 4wd class.

Just wondering if a Honda CRV AWD be ok in the stock class? Are there high center of gravity considerations?

Stock CRV should be fine, but you should get the okay from the primary safety steward (Mike Malsed). I don't have Mike's current address, but the event chair should be able to get him: Dave Haws dhaws@verizon.net

Thanks Jayson.

I just talked to Mike and he is OK with a stock CRV. Also, the stock classes run first, so the course is smooth and ruts are not a problem 99% of the time.

Ken M, Jason U, George D, Roman, Seb and I did this back in '06 ... had a blast ... all of us AX'ers did well because we were close to the cones. The regulars like to do big power slides around the corners but they're way off the cones. Roman and I rented a Neon and came in 1st and 2nd in I guess 2wd Stock. Make sure you get the extra insurance! :-)

Yeah, autoXers have the distinct advantage of being disciplined drivers.

I told Dave this event was well placed on the schedule to get some decent cross over participation from the AutoX scene (after Nats, in between champs). I know they appreciate the added attendance, as well as the added competition.

BTW, I should be running the Timing and Scoring, and probably have a little influance on operations this day.

How bad did your rental car look after the event? I'd love to try this, but would be worried about taking a rental back that had trim parts hanging off.

Part of the driving program I used to teach involved a similar course, but on sandy Arizona soil (as opposed to Glen Helen's riverbed) and our cars were beat (as in fresh paint chips missing along the rockers) after about 20 laps.

I've taken quite a few rentals to Glen Helen, haven't had any problems there. In the desert you need to try and keep the inside un-dusted, and early Chula Vista (before the removed the big rock) was a trim ripper. This venue has some rocks, but I haven't really found damage to cars. A coin op power wash is good 'pre-return' proceedure though.

Only on the practice day is there no official timing.

On race day there will be timing. For auto-x guys, we will add 3 seconds per run to even it out a little!!

Would a stock FJ Cruiser be safe/okay to run?

And please fix the motorsportsreg link :) - it's cut off & doesn't load anything.

Try this one:

http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/show ... hp?t=17389" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Somehow that other link goes bad when you cut & paste it. But it works over on DI.

Not my call, but we normally just worry about lifted vehicles. Were you to autocross it do you think it would feel tippy or unstable? If it could autocross well, it should be fine on dirt. Not talking about if it's fast...just stable. And you'll be even less likely to have problems if you race with an autocross line (which I do) instead of driving wild-ass into a corner and setting up a huge drift.

Only 9 more days to pre-pay and get the $60 price!! It goes up to $80 after Sept. 18th regardless of pre-reg status.

We have only 10 people so far who have pre paid. For those of you who have reg'ed but not paid, be sure to get your money in before the 18th and save!

I wouldn't, very short wheelbase. That said they do have an amazing tilt ability of 37%, but I don't expect that to be at speed. At a receint off road course for the public to try the vehicle, we had a side tilt full circle outer circumference obstacle at ~ 33%. Let me tell you thats a bit unnerving as the instructor, knowing most participants have never been off the paved surface, and definitely have not driven anything like that before.

In reference to Bill's comment, they are not allowed in Autocross.

Didn't know that. If they're banned in autocross, probably a bad idea for rallycross.
