Smog Fail - need advice

Post by Steve Towers »

My 2000 Vette failed smog due to code 0113 (Intake Air Temperature). I replaced the sensor but I'm still getting the code. Any thoughts?

If its not the sensor, wiring/connectors to the ecu. And did you clear the code after replacing the sensor? The ecu will store old codes for quite a while...then after having codes cleared it take time for the ecu to run tests to be ready for smog.

Yea, I did clear the code. I'm going to clear it again tomorrow and take the car for a 30 mile ride. It's interesting that changing the sensor did make the "active handling warming up" go away from the DIC (supposedly that message appears if the sensor thinks the intake air is too cold) but didn't affect the code.

Turns out Eric was correct. There was a faulty wire inside the connector to the sensor. New connector spliced into the existing wiring seems to have solved the problem. I'll give it a few days and if no code issues, I'll retry the smog deal.

How it came to pass that the air intake temp would affect the active handling is certainly puzzling.

Short might pull down a buss or something.

Or maybe the sensor read off scale low (i.e., freaking cold), and told the system to be on extra lookout for ice :-).

Apparently that is exactly what occured. Before replacing the connector, the intake temp read -38F (on an 80 degree day).
