Re: October 24th GRA Championship & Practice
Last weekend there was still some road work going on, however the run into gate 6 is fine. I used it several times last week during the 400.

Hmm... What if I'm bringing a friend?Bill Schenker wrote: Don't forget to take advantage of the instructor "program" Leonard Cachola & Lily Liu are in charge of the Novices - look for them - best to ask for an instructor during the Driver's mtg.
Also, how can I have an instructor drive my car, but make sure it doesn't count as one of my runs?

Q
No passengers during champ. days EXCEPT instructors that can ride with you. An instructor can drive one run w/o you losing a run.Norman Kung wrote:Hmm... Norman, here's the real deal. Bill didn't think of this because he's a fierce competitor who would never think of taking a passenger during a championship.
Passengers (with the exception of approved instructors) are not allowed during competition runs. However, if you are there to have fun and don't care about amassing points, are doing "time only" runs, or have purchased an additional set of runs that we call "X runs", passengers are allowed. And you can still have one free instructor run for each set of runs you purchase. We want you to have fun, learn all you can, and come back again and again.

And to further explain "time only", it is a class (labeled TO) that allows you to run whenever you choose (subject to a max of 10 TO entries per group) and that you must work a group for. "X runs" do not require working (but you must have purchased and worked a 1st set of runs).George Schilling wrote:Ahhh.....I see we have a new "Minister of Misinformation". Re: October 24th GRA Championship & Practice
I appreciate everyone's help in getting me started... I realize that I'm asking really simple questions, and this is hardly the appropriate place to do so. So thanks for putting up with me
So I should sign up as California Street Tire - Novice, and have an instructor show me the ropes, then take him/her with me for all my runs. I'm also definitely planning on purchasing X runs, and my friend can ride along during those (with the proper temp SCCA membership and helmet, of course).
In order to earn a trophy (if I may be so ambitious), do I need to purchase an SCCA points card? And what qualifies you as a "Novice?"
Thanks again, guys...

I'm not 100% sure on the trophy issue, so I'll let someone smarter than me answer that one rather than giving out misinformation.Norman Kung wrote: In order to earn a trophy (if I may be so ambitious), do I need to purchase an SCCA points card? And what qualifies you as a "Novice?"
Check out the region's supplemental regulations for a description of the Novice class, how it works, and what is required to be considered a novice (see Appendix A).

Trophies are awarded in all regular classes (not TO or X), no points card needed. 1 for 3 entries, 2 for 5 and 1 for each additional 5.Norman Kung wrote:I appreciate everyone's help in getting me started... And the points card is a regional thing so it's CSCC, not SCCA.

Re: October 24th GRA Championship & Practice
If anyone wants to capture their runs in HD video with one or two in-car cameras with high quality audio during the GRA event, just email me at renta650h@aol.com. I will edit your runs and burn the footage onto a DVD+R disc. The label on the DVD with have a picture of your car, your name, race number, the date and the event name LASERED into the surface of the disc. You will hear the engine of YOUR car and the screeches of YOUR tires if you just pushed a corner too hard as you attack the Solo course!
