WTB, really cheap little car

I need a beater. On the order of $1,000

Little is good, manual is probably best, probably FWD.

Has to run properly. I don't want to deal with smog or registration hastles.

I prefer decent paint and no dents, but certinly not a deal breaker. Couldn't care less about the interior condition.

Pretty decent with new paint ( he works at a body shop )
He is asking 1,700.
