Fast Kids on Karts

Post by Ron Tsumura »

I wanted to comment on how fast those kids have gotten. I was very impressed watching while working on course. I got a little concerned at times. When are they going to lift? WoW! I guess they did not need to lift after all...
I can't wait to see when they get their drivers licences! }:)

Last month, Will and I were really concerned about the hard right slight off camber turn to go back up the hill to 12P after flying all the way down the hill through the walloms that were flat even for a car. Looked like spin city. Robert went through flat probably turning in at very close to 40mph in an FJC kart. Said it was cool! Cyan in the faster FJB kart took it fast and slid out into the marbles. She dirt tracked her way around like a total rally pro and had a story to tell later!

I'd say Christine and Lisa are pretty good examples. Didn't exactly start at the bottom when they got in cars.

OK, OK, they get a little benefit having the Berry gene.

I love watching the cars, kids and adults. Would love to see the video from the kids helmet cams posted more often. Love that shot Mako took in November with them all lined up.

I just uploaded Robert's fastest run from November (his last race as a 6yo).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHaJV3vqtXg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Be sure to select 720P for HD viewing.

BTW for Robert we angle the camera down to see his driving inputs... This means as you watch it, you'll constantly be raising your head hoping that the field of view raises. It won't.

Frenetic doesn't begin to describe it. That's crazy!

Yep.. I chickened out at that one. I lifted with a light brake. Felt I could have gone much faster on that one. Not sure how fast I was going? 70 ish mph?

It was cool to see them put the karts right against the outside wall. All the kids have progressed so well as a group! No more 120sec laps. We were very impressed with how fast Dane was for his second time in FJB. The kid who started in FJC are going to be krazy fast when they move up to cars!

But wait! Karts are nothing but a nuisance - let's not even go into how bad jr. karts are! When will this region ever learn?! At least the region to the south had it right...

Steve ... you ARE using video resolution r4 correct ... that's the Tallest HD Video mode on the GoPro ...and the default video mode.

Hmmmm... I don't think so... I think I'm using r3. I'll have to check.

Dang... I'm using r3, it looks like r4 might be enough taller to give us a better view of Robert's toes and the course. I think I still like the r3's 16:9 for use on the civic roof. BTW-I prefer my view on the civics as opposed to the traditional through the windshield view all the other civie sheeple are using.

I would try r4 for both situations ... you want to see far AND deep into the foreground

My son Jacob has done well with his driving skills too. Next year we hope to have a new engine to compete with closer times.
