Sound meter
Do we have a sound meter for exhaust noise measurement?

Yes, Mr. Pacino, sir. But I think it got left in Lincoln when SCCA borrowed it for Nationals (they needed three meters there).

Re: Sound meter
Bummer! Hopefully someone with good ears can tell me if my exhaust is too loud at the next practice. I just put on a hushpower muffler and it got considerably louder.

Re: Sound meter
So at the Pro Solo and divisional your going to bring a spare in case it's too loud?

Re: Sound meter
The meter is here. We were using it to measure my car late Sunday. The only reason it wasn't used all day is the lighter turnout - we didn't want to pull a worker off the course.

It is packed in the RV. But it isn't something that just anybody can go grab, for numerous reasons.

Re: Sound meter
As a general routine we will be operating the meter on course, but the last event was particularly difficult from a courseworker management standpoint, so we couldn't devote an additional body to operating the meter.
If that continues, please coordinate with the Event Chair who will likely contact me or KJ to work with you for the readings.
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the next event due to the conflict with the SCCA convention.

Re: Sound meter
I think the Speedway's limit is 95db.
If there's an event in San Diego you can always go down there and experience the warm hospitality reserved for those who go over the sound limit.

Re: Sound meter
I believe the decision was to remove all sound regulations in our Sup Regs and refer to whatever the curent SCCA rule is.Mike Kazmierczak wrote:What's going to be the limit at our events?

Maybe I should go to SD on Saturday and find out sooner than later.KJ Christopher wrote:I'm taking the Menace down there Saturday.....Bob Beamesderfer wrote:I think the Speedway's limit is 95db.

Re: Sound meter
Maybe a progressive switch on the steering wheel that cuts one, two or three cylinders as you pass the meter. Not so good for your time, but better than DNF or DSQ.KJ Christopher wrote:Essentially, yes.Robert Puertas wrote:Did you build a dog house for the motor?KJ Christopher wrote: I'm taking the Menace down there Saturday.....

It's already got one of those, it's operated by the driver's right foot. ;)Rick Brown wrote:Maybe a progressive switch on the steering wheel that cuts one, two or three cylinders as you pass the meter. Not so good for your time, but better than DNF or DSQ.

Re: Sound meter
Frank, if you are considering a trip down to San Diego on Saturday to run and are not already registered for the practice, I would recommend contacting the event chair first. Although you may have a chance to get in, the wait list is fairly long.Frank Lucas wrote:Maybe I should go to SD on Saturday and find out sooner than later.

The sound meter will also be up on Sunday for the championship.

Re: Sound meter
There is a free iphone application... so if you or one of your friends has an iphone you can measure the sound level yourself!
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem
Re: Sound meter
Really! There's an app for that? Checking the app store right now.Christos Adam wrote:There is a free iphone application... so if you or one of your friends has an iphone you can measure the sound level yourself!
Do exhaust sounds louder standing still versus driving (underload)?

I think there's a db meter as part of Appzilla. I love Appzilla.
