Who uses a traqmate for autox

Post by Alan Yu »

I have a traqmate and was wondering if anyone here uses it for autox can give me some insight on how to set it for autox runs.

I can see how the traqmate would have a hard time matching the timing light's time but I think that is alright.

My question is that the traqmate has an autox start that times the run when the car launches so every run can have the same start.

My question is when to push the finish button. I don't know if traqmate remembers the autox start and finish points or do I set it for each run?

If that is the case then I can push the finish button anytime. I can compare each run by overlaying them.

I've used a traqmate for AutoX once.

You just need to set it up so that it records while you're moving, and all the work to figure out your times is done after the fact in the software.

Once you have your data loaded into the software you'll set it for the mode at the top that isn't a circuit (so you can set the start and finish lines at different places). Once you have the start/finish lines set, it does the work to figure out your times. It wasn't really designed with auotcross in mind, so for example, if you have multiple runs stored in the same data file, you won't be able to run both of them at the same time in the software.

I also run a traqmate. I tried the autox mode a few years ago and didn't like it. I believe they made improvements, but never re-evaluated.

I just run it in Drive Mode for autox. You can set the start and finish lines later like how Jeff describes. Start and finish times are based on location. I usually set the start location shortly after the start lights and finish lines shortly before the finish lights. It won't match the autox timers, but you can still compare all your runs equally.

You can "play" multiple runs from data file. You'll just need to open the data file multiple times and disable some of the laps in the "Setup" button.

Attached is an example. I am comparing 3 laps from one drive data.

The data also makes for cool videos.

Good tip, didn't think to try that.

That is a good tip - just one final question to add to that. After I put it in Drive mode and set the start and finish. I won't have to input it every time? Timing will start automatically at the start and stop at the finish.

In Drive Mode you do not need to set a start or finish location in the hardware (at the track). When you start Drive Mode it continuously records data until you hit the stop button.

You later set the start finish locations inside Traqview. I open the data file, set my start and finish lines, then open the data file multiple times. The start and finish lines will apply to all the instances of the open data files.

If you close Traqview and reopen the file, you will lose the start and finish lines. You can save the start and finish lines if you save it as an Analysis Data (different file extension option). It's not the friendliest software, but easier than most.
