GoPro 3D

Was wondering if there is anybody out there currently running 2 or more GoPro HD camera's that was thinking of buying the new 3D kit, or might be willing to run the kit if I decide to buy it. I currently only have the one camera and want to see if it's as cool in practice as it sounds in the ad. I would rather risk the $99 bucks for the new housing sync kit and software, before I spend $300 on top of that buying a second camera. If somebody is already going to try this, I would love to see the results as much for my sail boat and snorkling as for my racing. I know I saw a number of cars running more than one camera, just not sure how many were local. I didn't see anyone running the 3D set up. Be cool if it could run on the new Nintedo 3DS.

Do you already have a 3d setup @ home, Art? If not, that's another thing to consider as part of the budget.

Nope don't have the 3D set up yet, they just sent out the info to the owner group. I stay registered for firmware updates. Looks cool, and $99 bucks complete for new case, datalink, software etc is in my play money range. Dropping $300 bucks to buy a second camera I would use but not really need is a different question. Then were talking $400 altogether and that's a lot of money when I don't know I am going to care one way or another about the result. I must have seen a half dozen cars running at least two GoPro and one the white Acura, running 3 of them.

Best case one of the guys with 2 cameras buys the set up and I get to see how it works, worst case maybe I buy the set up and borrow a camera, although well I don't mind loaning my stuff, I always worry about borrowing and potentially harming someone elses stuff.

Looks cool though don't you think? Requires a little bit of work for post production but seems reasonable trade for the price. Would of course rather they build an affordable remote on/off switch.

It's not a bad idea if you already have a 3dtv setup @ home; otherwise, that's another $1000 or so to invest.

Works on standard computer monitor, tv etc with provided glasses. (3 sets).

Only the red/blue ones, which suck.

For the active shutters, you need a 120hz lcd, proper video card, and active shutter glasses w/ emitter.

For the passive shutters, you need a specialized lcd and shutter glasses.

Noticed the white Acura was running the 3D system on his / her roof. Nice upgrade since National Tour last week. If anybody knows the drivers and can get them to post the 3D online it would be very cool.

The main issue with the GoPro 3D "rig" as an aid in AX video's is that the interoccular distance, the spacing between the two lenses, is too close. Our eyes are about 2.5" apart. When the spacing is too close, you don't get much separation of the two images, ie. diminished 3D effect.

By having a closer foreground element, like the driver, you will get more of an overall 3D effect, but it won't help with separation of more distant objects, ie. cones.
