What the title says...
Basically after blowing my transmission I talk to a few people about it and one of the things that I heard was that damping the clutch during a 1st-2nd gear change can be worse than just lifting off the throttle and changing 1st to 2nd.
Does the above statement hold any water?
Is it better to use the clutch for quick 1st-2nd gearchanges

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem

No true for a transmission with synchros. True for a dog box transmission.

If damping = dumping, don't do that either.Christos Adam wrote:one of the things that I heard was that damping the clutch during a 1st-2nd gear change can be worse than just lifting off the throttle and changing 1st to 2nd.
Not using your clutch with a synchronized tranny is a quick way to replace transmissions, clutches, throwout bearings, financial advisors and any plans to retire, ever.
Shift smoothly. You can give up that last 0.1 seconds to avoid grenading all kinds of expensive hardware.

1) Get a ride with a top driver and watch how they shift.Christos Adam wrote:What the title says...

2) Do not take any other advice from those "few people".
