A typical day at the Ring in the '70's. Almost cute and homey how they take care of each other. That spot would get 100's of Sunday picnickers ... more action then a real race.
All they needed to do was put a big flashing warning sign to slow down for that particular corner, and it would have taken away a lot of entertainment. Interesting that at least back then, the tracks attitude was completely ... you're on your own. Now-a-days they DO ding you for repair costs to the armco ... which of course back then didn't even exist.
I was one of those stupid idiots, but I flipped my VW sedan at my local track, the Hockenheim Ring. Snow tires on the rear, haphazard tire pressure, and a tire popped off the rim in full drift. We had belts, and I guess it was a design feature that the seat supports collapsed to the floor giving one more head clearance? I could hardly see over the steering wheel on the airy drive home, ie. no front windshield.

I was amazed to see the 4 people in the VW convertible. That would have been a real disaster if he over drove that corner like everyone else.

Perhaps the weight of his passengers kept him from going over!
