How they calculate the treadware number is very subjective, so you can't really look at the number itself as a direct indicator of performance. I promise, the Dunlop is a good tire. I went through two sets of them before recently switching to the Hankooks (which are cheaper in my size). It seems lately more people are saying the Hankook is a better than the Dunlop, but they're not really that much different.Matt Cipolla wrote: I found the Dunlops on tirerack with a very tempting price, but I noticed they are 200 treadwear. Is that ok?
If you're going to be running with an HS, then Ron is right, there is no 140 treadware rule for the class, and you can run a tire like the Hankook Z214, which is basically a slick tire (also the Kumho V710 and Hoosier A6). However, I wouldn't recommend driving on the street with those tires, as they have no tread, which means you have to have a second set of wheels, and bring them to every event and change them out. They're probably worth another 2-3 seconds or so.Matt Cipolla wrote: From what most people have been saying, it seems like my best bet is to just get some better street tires.
