Replacement Brake Hoses

Post by Steve Towers »

I'm going to replace the brake hoses on the Vette and the OEM hoses are discontinued. Any brand preferences from your experience?

OEM are rubber, why wouldn't you upgrade to steel braided? Much better peddle feel?

If he is in a stock class, and his car is 1992 or newer... because it would be against the rules.

My car is a 2000. Mr. Naylor has it correct.

Keep in mind that GM has issued a tsb re: ss brake lines causing issues with wheel speed sensors, some have problems some don't may be MY specific.

Can't do SS in stock anyway. When the shop I took the car to called the local GM dealer for hoses they were told the oem hoses are "a discontinued item for all C5's". Look like aftermarket rubber is the only answer.

I'm trying to imagine how the hose material would affect the wheel speed sensor.

Electronic interference? Static buildup? Aliens?

TSB's are usually short on the why an engineering/manufacturing issue happened. Just this is what you do to fix it for the field tech.

Good to have a post from you dude, been a long time.

I like how the TSB includes the 2012 and 2013 model years.

I'm running SS lines on my '05 Vette, with no issues/glitches so far. I realize they're prohibited in Stock classes, but if the class allows, I consider them a good upgrade. They take a little mush out of the initial application, and really yield a harder pedal when you stand on the brakes.

I had some issues with the fittings on Goodridge lines--couldn't even begin to hand-thread them for the first turn or so where they meet the hard line--so I took them back and swapped them for StopTechs, which easily threaded right up.
