WTB fast street tires 215-45x16 or similar size

Post by Stephen Swytak »

I need sticky street tires for my Mini, hopefully Hankook Ventus R-$3 or Kumho Ecsta XS or Falken Azeni RT-615k. Am in Santa Ana. Have you any ideas about where is best deal to get them? TIA

Through mail order, either Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct.

Locally, I like Tucker Tire...I-5 at Crown Valley Parkway in Laguna Niguel or thereabouts.

I got a set of the Hankooks (225-45/17) for my Mini for $500 from Tire Rack. You're not going to find a better deal. Plus they'll deliver to wherever you're having them mounted and balanced.

yup.. that wasn't a "proposal".. brown signed that in the same time he signed the budget, so that the politicians can get paid again.

Ask your local state representative. Once again, California leads the nation in stupidity.

I have a set of used 615's I'd be happy to sell you. They're 225 16's. Plenty of tread left. $50 for the set.

I also have a set of 17" 615's if anyone is interested. Same price.

Thanks for the responses.

Kurt, do you think the 225x50 would fit? I don't know my offset. the Azenis fit at 215-45x16. Wheels are SSR comp 16x7 or 7.5. Nowhere on the wheels is the offset noted. so far as I can determine.

Depends what tires you buy. My Hankooks (autocross tires) fit perfectly, but I have a set of Dunlop Star Specs (street tires) that rub the wheel well inserts just a hair at full steering lock. If you're worried about it, you can buy 215s or 205s. My autocross wheels have a 42mm offset and my stock wheels (with the Star Specs) have a 48mm offset.

I called Tire Rack and they had Kumho Ecsta XS in 215-45x16, same size as I'm running, for $487 shipped less a $50 rebate coming back to me. I don't think further shopping would be worthwhile, and since the threads are showing, it is time to pull the trigger. Thanks everyone.

George. Thank you very much for the offer. I missed your proposal before I bought the Kumho's.

I would get them in a second even now though but I'm thinking they will be too big. Are they 225-50?
My stock wheel height is 24" (I'm currently running under stock height) and Tire Rack guy said 225-50x16 Hankooks were 24.9". My car is sort of slammed, but they are JIC c/o's so that could be changed. What car did you have them on? Just hate to spend the $80 to mount and then find they rub a whole lot. A little is OK.

Jeff, they are either 205/40 or 215/40. I"ll check when I get home.

I have some 2,3,or 6mm wheel spacers available for the mini. All are stock legal.
