New to CSCC, some ?s before registering for Solo event

Post by chris chandler »

I'm not totally green to autoX, but did it 5 or 6 years ago and I was in Pennsylvania. Just moved to LA, looking to get back into it, but have a handful questions before I decide if I should register for Sunday or wait for the next one...

1) I have a bone stock 95 Civic DX that I'd register in HS, and I guess I'd be back in Novice by now. My car has a cracked windshield, will that pass tech?
2) One of the two bolts for the clamp on top of the battery is missing, and right now there is a coat hangar in it's place. It's totally secure, but would this pass tech?
3) In my old region, they had a handful of loaner helmets at the event. Does CSCC have something like that, or do I need to purchase my own helmet before I can participate?
4) Do I need to have a club affiliation for my first event even if I am entering using a weekend pass?

thanks for the help!

I'll leave the tech answers for someone else... :

1) You can register as HS (R-compound or street tires), HS Novice (R-compound or street tires) or, if you like, you can participate in SK2 HS (street tires only), a local street tire class for stock cars.

3) Yes, we have a limited number of loaner helmets available at the motorhome. Just leave your driver's license on the clipboard when you grab a helmet.

4) No, you do not need a club affiliation for your first year as a member of CSCC.

The broken windshield will likely pass, unless it's so badly broken it's about to fly out of the car.

The battery... that's questionable. But your local auto parts store should have a $5 solution available to you that might take 15 minutes to install. Why let that stop you?

When you use one of the loaner helmets, please be sure to use the headsocks we provide. They're disposable and keep you and the helmet clean.

Come by tomorrow morning by 7am. There are a few open slots left @ the practice - bring cash or a check. Or come by any time tomorrow if haven't been yet just to get back into things, get some ride-alongs, etc.

Get the universal battery tie down @ an autoparts store, it's so easy to install & much safer. I've seen "totally secure" batteries get tossed around after a few runs before...

Otherwise, come by Sunday (or do both!).

You'll likely need more than twice as much gas to run with us.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Unfortunately, while changing the oil, I noticed my front tires lookin pretty dry and starting to crack, so I had to bail on racing tomorrow. I'll keep an eye out for the next one, and practices, and see you all once I get some clean rubber

Ditto. I went to Penn State, and the SCCA Solo II's in that region were at the Phillipsburg airport
