Cable Management
Ok audio/video peeps,
I'm looking to relocate my TV to up above the fireplace. This will mean having Direct TV cable coming in on the other side of the room, across hardwood floors. I will also need to route audio/HDMI/PS3/PC cabling.
What is your preferred method of cable hiding along the sides of walls/stairs etc?
I see Home Depot has quite a few options, but just seeing if anyone has anything they recommend.
Thxx.

Re: Cable Management
Max, I have only one HDMI cable going to the projector (TV). The Directv, PS3/blueRay and computer are connected to a HDMI switch on the end table next to me. But, the way to go is an amp with HDMI multiple inputs and output only one HDMI to TV.
Sony STRDH520 7.1 Channel 3D AV Receiver (Black)
Is a cheap one that is on my Christmas list. Amazon for about $150. I already have a 5.1 sound system and this would replace that receiver and I could get rid of the switch.
Then, it is rather easy to hide just one cable.

Yeah, I was planning on one of those as well, Don. Still need some cable hiders though... even an HDMI and power cable need to disappear somehow.

seriously though, you have the option of cable chases that they sell at home depot. there's varying degrees of built quality, you kinda get what you pay for. how far are you having to run the cables? I've considered adding crown molding in my living room just so i can hide the wires, but the crown molding doesn't go so well with popcorn ceiling..

the pro way, would be to cut a slot of dry wall and run it by the studs, patch, paint.. but that's really involved.. >_<

Re: Cable Management
I have tried:
1. Little round plastic hide-a-cord stuff needed more room for more cables!
2. 1" x 1/2" rectangular hide-a-cord stuff needed less room and the adhesive removes paint, drywall and everythng else it sticks to.
3. Removed baseboard and forced the cable down in the slot between the wood/carpet and the wall then replaced baseboard, worked really good until my wife wanted the TV over there, then back over here, then ...... used one of the above to hide the cable vertically.
4. Crown Molding, worked vey well until #3 above and I fell off of a ladder, compund double fracture of left arm.....don't do ladders anymore.
Now they knda hang in an artistic manner....

Re: Cable Management
Bloody Hell, Don... maybe I should leave the TV where it is!
Trouble is, it takes up a lot of room and I'm going to need more seating capacity in my long and narrow living room shortly. Home Depot cable thingies here I come!

Can't go overhead through the attic?
I got my own question to, guess I'll start my own thread.

Re: Cable Management
For the added household members, add more seating after the TV relocation like this method in 'Soarin Over California'.

Re: Cable Management
Last year, I re-arranged my living room (made spaces for my twins) which included moving the TV to the opposite side of the room. I used CordMate II products to route the cables along the walls. It turned out pretty good. Is this what you saw at Home Deport, Max?

Re: Cable Management
That's what I used also-----make sure you have it where you want it.... It removed the paint and drywall texture when I wanted to move it....

Re: Cable Management
If you want it to be removable without damaging the paint, you could hang it using 3M Command Strips.
