Sold***Sold***Sold*** 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder

Post by Doug Kott »

Sold! It was nice meeting you, Mike. I'm sure you'll really enjoy the car. And good luck finding space for all the extras!

2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder

A great little autocross car! CST Championship winner for 2010.
Solar Yellow, 62,000 miles, 5-speed manual, yellow/black leather seats, a/c blows super-cold! Garage-kept and waxed frequently, vinyl top in excellent shape. Oil/filter changes every 3K miles. Headlight modules/lenses replaced within the last 2000 miles.

Modifications for autocross:

• BC Racing coilovers, 30-position single-adjustable
• 6 kg/mm springs front and rear (also have 4 kg/mm front springs)
• Addco 1” front anti-roll bar w/ urethane bushings
• Underbody bracing, front strut-tower brace
• Moroso baffled aluminum 6-qt. oilpan
• PPE downpipe & high-flow cat
• Team Moon single-tip exhaust w/ Magnaflow muffler
• 6UL wheels (15 x 8), matte bronze finish
• Hankook Ventus R-S3 tires (225/45-15), about half-worn
• Autopower rollbar w/ padding
• Aggressive alignment (-3 degrees camber front, -1.9 degrees rear)

All the original parts come with the car, including the alloy wheels, so the car can be returned to stock if desired. Weighs about 2160 lb. with ¼ tank of fuel. Uses regular-grade gas, and ride quality is decent enough (with shocks set to full soft) for this to be your daily driver. Best freeway mileage (at 80-mph cruise) was 32 mpg. Really easy on tires…a set of Hankook R-S3s (about $120 apiece) will last a full season, and they wear nice and flat. Hate to sell it, but I bought a new toy (C6 Vette) and must free up garage space.

The only thing it needs is a new owner!

A great deal for $9995 firm.

Call Doug at 949 309-8031.

Cool little toy, I'd wondered what you'd done to make it so nimble... Of course, that could have been the nut behind the wheel. Nah, magazine guys can't drive! ;)

You've got to love Google. I typed "6 kg/mm in pounds/inch" into the search box and got back "6 (kg / mm) = 335.984488 pounds / inch"

Think expensive tires...but, if Doug were to run r-comps (which I don't believe is the plan), think lower overall tire costs than many (most?) stock class cars ;)

Speaking of more expensive tires, my first task is going to be to determine if I can spend more on tires for Mr.Two...like 245/35-17's...thoughts? I believe I may be going where no man has ventured...

IMO i would go 195/50r15 toyo r1r on 15x8 or a 205/50r15 on a 15x9. Much better for SFR courses gearing wise as well.

Well...it is currently on 15x8 with 225 RS3's, which should be fine for SFR courses (not sure I can really see that much of a footprint improvement with a 9" rim, given the 225 section width). But, ultimately it might be interesting to play around with the 245/35-17. Yes, thrust in gear wouldn't be as good in many elements, but it would take the 2nd gear ceiling up into the low 60mph range, which would take 3rd gear out of play in many National type courses. I also think that maximizing the tire/weight (one of the car's strong points) is attractive. But, that same .8" difference in diameter also raises the CG a bit...tradeoffs...

I guess I shouldn't think so much and focus on picking the car up and driving it to see what I've bought

Hey Mike,

I bought a C6 Vette! A 2005, with just 13,500 original miles. I ran it at the last event on its original set of Paleozoic-era Goodyear run-flats--talk about walking on eggshells with throttle application! Should respond well to fresh rubber, alignment, etc., and it'll be a blast at Buttonwillow and Fontucky open-track days too. I'm gonna stay on street tires; one set a year should do.

If anyone has interest, this car could be for sale again. Same price, but I'll add a set of custom ProParts built Koni DA's to the equation.

Fantastic car and could be a real player in STR, but my purchase of a CM car has led to my losing interest in STR and make it more sensible to send this nearly mint MR2 Spyder to a new owner.

PM if interested.
