Every club has their own preferred method for both registering and running practices: some are very user-friendly, and some still invoke double-secret probation.
Yes, it can be frustrating for new(ish) folks, but I don't ever see it changing. As practices are put on by individual clubs and not CSCC as a whole (like our Sundays) they can run things how ever they see fit.
This is a good reminder to everyone, new or old, to read the instructions carefully for every event, and never assume anything. As my grandfather used to say, "You know what the word 'assume' means...?" }:)

There was actually a lot of negative feedback for the way it was done in January, where you had to read the directions on MSR, but not actually register there. Can't please everyone, it seems....
