well when a 2 rotor turbo has a lower minimum weight and makes the same or more power....probably never.

That Tech Bulletin seems a bit... less than useful to me, so I'll explain a little further. 2012 rules permit subframe replacement or modification:

16.1.T. Alternate subframes are allowed to facilitate engine mounting only. Suspension pick-up points on the subframe must retain standard geometry. Weight of the subframe must be equal or greater than the standard unit.

The letter writer had a specific question, but the key points are still evident: suspension geometry must remain unaltered from stock, subframe weight cannot be less than stock (easily accommodated with ballast in the construction), and this modification is only permitted to facilitate engine mounting. So yes, a rotary engine should totally be feasible in a Miata.

the internet says the NC is an easier renesis swap.

looks like the NA/NB's need some frame/firewall trimming to make it work...but that's just what the internet says. maybe with some scca rule book focus and more money it could be done.

I bet those fitment issues have more to do with the transmission than anything else... which is open in SM, right?

the pics i found it was the engine that was hitting the fire wall when you put the trans in its normal spot. can't really move the engine forward much more because the steering rack is already going through the oil pan.

Super light. Very low VIN number; I am the original owner; English Mercury Mags with new tires; Abarth "Ducktail" spoiler on trunk; 1300cc / 4 speed. Corbeau racing seats. Never raced. I also have many spares including a full set of Koni shocks, an extra transmission, an extra Targa top, and various suspension bits. All original service records since new including original Monroney sticker. This would make a great show car or racer. Originally purchased in Ontario, California this car has never left the state.

Why am I so tempted by this? Apparently, the memory of those years of laying upside-down in footwells replacing leaky master cylinders has faded.

Regarding the NC, I worked on a proposal to build a Renesis-powered one a couple of years ago... it's very straightforward.

What I am imagining is the drivetrain of one certain shiny black RX-7 wedged into the shell of a certain flat black '99 Miata.
