Audi Crash

Post by Giovanni Jaramillo »

Similar to the incident of that Ferrari Enzo on PCH in Malibu but obviously not as sensational as it's somewhere in Europe and it's only an Audi. But hey it's still a German marque so they are strong enough for someone to survive. But holy S***!!!

It's a converted PowerPoint Slideshow so may have problems in Firefox viewing but fine in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Holy crap! That driver is one lucky SOB...it was almost like there was an invisible pod protecting him in his seat. I hope there wasn't a passenger.

I think more sensational than the crash itself was the backstory of the driver (no not "Dieter"). What a loon!

One thing I noticed that seemed odd is that the tree does not appear to have much damage??? I would've expected to see some more bark missing from the collision.

Maybe that wasn't the tree he hit, it was just the one he came to rest by. ;)

I saw a car hit a little sapling in a police chase years ago, and the car was totally destroyed without breaking the tree or even damaging it that much. Couldn't have been more than 4 inches in diameter.

This is the crash that killed the co-driver (and the Group B Rally cars) and almost killed ex F1 driver Marc Surer. Couldn't find the stills ... but the car was "cleanly" cut in half and the tree barely damaged:

You can't really see it in that video, but he did take out a small tree before he hit the bigger one.

A friend hit a 3-4" tree going sideways in his '85 Honda Civic at about 60mph. The tree stopped in the middle of the car (hit in the middle of the passenger-side door), and then stood back upright, holding the car 3 feet off the ground.

I've heard it said that you are better off hitting a brick wall than even a small tree head-on.

It would certainly be more surface area for the wall, to spread out the energy of the impact.

Walls crumble, and most don't have the foundation (root structure) that trees have.

That too. Last year on a show called Bullrun, one of the competitors drove a truck through a cinderblock wall without terrible damage, and they just kept on going. I guess it depends on how strong and well reinforced the wall is, but regardless in most cases I'd rather hit a wall than a tree.
