I did both weekends of packwood flying home between. It was a pain. LIke a 3hr drive to the airport. But great site. And the NWR people are fantastic. I definitely miss Packwood. Drive up and back felt just as long as Nationals. Ridiculous traffic in Oregon. And 55 was a pain. Hard on and offs for diesel in Kalifornya. Few easy places to park and catch a few hours sleep.

Good, that's what I was hoping for ... might as well go 70, 75 (feels like 55) ... comfortable speed for the mighty super charged Previa!

(thank goodness for light Miatas and single axle trailers!)

You go 80mph with a trailer in Kalifornya and you might go to jail.

I know that some day, I'll get pulled driving the Odyssey towing the kart rig @65mph.

I get passed continuously at 65; at 55, I'm a hazardous obstruction holding up a long line of cars that are bailing out on both sides into traffic coming up behind them. I figure it's going to be a "basic speed law" defense if I ever have to use it.

I tow the kart at the posted "regular" speed limit normally, or slightly above. But I do stay in the right lanes. Total weight is maybe 350lbs, like having a couple of passengers in the car, can't even tell it's there, has zero effect on fuel mileage. I do slow down when I see the constabulary.

The date draws closer!

I'm thinking it's a good idea to leave Thursday after work and just drive until 10pm and stop at the closest cheap hotel on I-40. Anyone see a problem with that idea?

Yea cheap hotels off the freeway = Easy picking for thieves. Do you have a car cover??

Or you could let tank sleep in the car

Yeah, that's our plan. Kingman AZ on Thurs. means you get to the event site in time for practice starts Fri.

Do you have a booking in Kingman - no one would steal my car if it was parked next to God's Chariot.

It's not the car that they want Max, its all the crap inside that they can get rid of quick for a few bucks.
The Mazda just takes a razor knife to get into, slices right thru the top. Usually that won't set off the alarm.

I figure on driving all day Thursday so I have more time to relax and prepare on Friday. I won't be able to get enough done at work on Thursday and don't feel like driving late into the night. Plus, the parts of the trip I haven't seen are all out there, so I'd rather see them in the daylight.

Of course, I just called and Thursday night is booked, so I need to find a different hotel. Swim team meet that weekend and the hotel (Marriott) is actually overbooked.

Never been to Farmington. Maybe someday someone will want us to haul their car there for them...
