I've got a newb question...

What's a "Match Tour", not that any of them are close.

St George, Utah - May 11 & 12. A 6 hour drive. Certainly worth considering.

I wonder how contingencies apply?

Match Tours are the latest addition to the Tire Rack SCCA National Solo Series. These events are three events in one package. The event start off with a Saturday four run Autocross, then a two run Last Chance Qualifier on Sunday morning, followed by the final show down coming together in Evolution Super Shootout. The Shootout format allows the forty-eight fastest drivers to mix with the top four ladies, as well as twelve random drawn drivers in a four ladder tournament to see who can take home the big prize.

The top 32 qualifiers are determined from the events overall PAX results, and are then locked into their positions for the Sunday Super Shootout. Once those drivers are locked in to the Shootout, the rest of the competitors get a second chance in the Last Chance Qualifier. Following the LCQ the top four ladies class competitors are brought into the Super Shootout bringing the total number to 52. The remaining 12 Super Shootout positions will be from a random drawing of any that have not made the top 52 spots, bringing the total to 64. With the field complete, the 64 competitors are plugged into a bracket system and run against one another until only one remains.

Holy bejesus. How much caffeine was consumed in that room to come up with this complicated proceedure.

Was this event format sucessfully piloted somewhere?

Will be curious to see how this plays out during a the first event.
With a single course format, there will be extreme pressure on the course workers to keep the course in tact for every run during this challenge phase.
Reruns for down cones are the issue in my opinion. They shouldn't be allowed basically.

What other issues might pop up due to having only one course versus the ProSolo Challenges where there are two courses and two cars running at the same time??

Ah, St.George, I saw "Utah" and assumed SLC.

If I remember correctly, St.George is actually part of the Las Vegas region (and SoPac division).

Looks like St. George *might* be worth the drive. Saturday is a stand alone tour event with related contingencies. Sunday will offer additional contingencies.

Could be fun. Just wondering about the venue. It's at the old St. George Municipal Airport. It's sits atop a bluff, approximately 3000' AGL. It was primarily used for private aircraft and small regional prop planes if I recall, so the runway will not be anywhere near the width of El Toro. My guess is 200' wide, probably a mile long. I suspect that they will use a taxiway in one direction and the runway in the other. Average high temps in May are 86 with lows 59.

The Match events were started by Jr. Johnson and the Evolution Performance Driving School last year. They were called Evo Super Shootouts and 3-4 were run back East last year. They seemed to be very well received by the folks that ran them; I really wanted to run one, and look forward to going to the one in St. George.

Here are the rules used at the Evolution Super Shootout.

I suspect there will be little change in the rules for the Match Tour.

That does sound like fun! That will make up for the fact that I can't do the SD Tour. I still can't believe the scheduled it on Easter. :unimpressed:

Actually, they scheduled it on my birthday.
And for you trivia geeks... I'm told I was born on Easter Sunday. And, unless I'm mistaken, my birthday will be on Easter Sunday in 2014...for only the 2nd time in my life. I won't tell you how long it will have taken for THAT to happen.
