Help! I can't log on.

Post by George Schilling »

For some reason I can't log on to the old site to check the results from this laptop. The log on box pops up, I enter my name and password, hit the log on button. Screen then returns to the main screen but I am not logged on. Only this laptop is affected. My other laptop and my desk computer log on fine. Any ideas?

Thanks for the quick response, but you guys are talking to a computer moron. As far as I'm concerned, cookies are for eatin' and cache sounds like something to carry my cookies in. I need detailed instructions please.

Better to delete the site-specific one instead of all of them.

(In Internet Explorer) Up on the top menu bar:

Tools > Delete Browsing History...

or

Tools > Internet Options > General > Browsing History > Delete

(these instructions work for a Windows Vista machine so it might be slightly different for other versions of windows)

i regularly purge my cookies just because it freaks me out when i see google ads and stuff like that popping up for my searches.

the really confusing part is that most of the time, i get Obama ads. This could be part of my distaste for him.. guy won't stay away from my computer!

Thank you Jeff, Bob and Christine. Maybe one day you can explain to me why that worked. I hate not knowing how this darn thing works.

i'm not exactly sure why it works.. it's just one of those things.. like restarting your computer when a program hangs.. it just kinda lets things sort itself out.

i don't know the why's of it, i just know it works most of the time.. :)

i found this article online though, and seems like a reasonable explanation for why it works.

The best guess I can venture is that a cookie or a cached file gets corrupted and throws it out of whack.

Cookies are put on your computer to act as an 'internet memory', useful for not having to login everytime everywhere. But like our memory, it can sometimes get faulty causing weird 'I didn't do that!' problems. So you delete them and start your memory over again.
