Yes it is the short intake. But i have not cut a slot in the fr bumper.

SSM allows DOT-legal R-comps. If I have a vehicle prepared to SSM rules and I decide to run in our regional PAX class with street tires (140 treadwear or higher), do I get the street tire index modifier on top of the SSM index? Mississippi region apparently runs their street tire class with that format, though I don't see it in our supplemental regs.

EDIT: The index for CST is 0.862, which is my desired index -- it's the same as SSM would be with an 0.980 road tire index multiplier. However, I can't select a regional class (CST) for my index in the PAX class, right?

Per the Supp Regs:
PAX CLASS
a. All entrants driving vehicles that compete in any SCCA National Solo class are eligible to compete in this Regional Class.

We do extend the extra street tire index to Historic classes (adding an "H" to stock classes) and Novice (adding a "K" to stock classes), but only for Stock classed vehicles. The thinking is if you normally run in a class with no tire restriction but you choose to run a 140+ tire, that's your choice. Many Historic cars are limited by wheel size and/or fender space so are very limited on tire choices. Novices just because they are Novices and we give them a year to figure out where to play.

PAX was created for mainly the top drivers (who were typically dominating their regular class) to have a place to play against each other. These people tend to have cars prepped at or near the limit so an allowance to street tires didn't make much sense. Since PAX would now allow RT* classes I suppose if you are running one of those in PAX you could use "K" add on. But again, that only works on Stock classes.

Did my first solo event today, a lot of fun and everyone was really helpful.

Have a stock Subaru BRZ, was in the Novice C Stock Street Tire category.

I have no plans of modifying the car for now, should I stay in this category or is there another that is more suitable?

That sounds like the right place to me. Running in the novice class, your best 6 results over the course of the year will decide the championship at the end of the year.

Actually, since he is running in Novice, he uses NOV CSK since the software will not do NOV RTR CS. Adding the "K" to a stock class in Novice selects an additional set of classes with the extra street tire index added.

Good evening. My daughter and I experienced our first event this weekend (4/27-28) and had a great time! We are brand new, also known as "newbies", "rookies", "novices" on our best day if I say so myself. I spectated at a couple of events prior to participating this weekend and found everyone very helpful as it was obvious we needed some help. I want to mention some folks in particular, David B., Leonard C., George S., John ?, and the Wehrman brothers. Again thanks and learned a bunch. I have some motorsport experience with off road scooters and buggies (long distance BC events) many, many years ago...
Anyway my question is what car class should we be in (we were placed in GS for this event) and our vehicle is a:
2006 Acura RSX Type S
All stock except carbon fiber hood (had a accident :( CF was cheaper than the OEM)

And we should probably be in the novice group correct? Thank you for your help and label us confused... :shock:

Welcome. For your reference, the rules book can be found on the SCCA web site: http://www.scca.com/solo/content.cfm?cid=44517.

Your car is GS when 100% oem, as you know from this past weekend. If you have 140+ treadwear (may be come 200+ treadwear next year), you can get an RTF (Road Tire Front-wheel Drive) or SK2 (street tire) index applied to your index in NOV.

With the carbon fiber hood, you are bumped to SM (Street Modified) nationally & CST (California Street Touring - anything goes) locally w/ 140+ treadwear (you can find this class in the Supp Regs). You may qualify for a lower (some Street Prepared) class, but you'll have to check the rule book to verify.

Unfortunately, that CF hood screws up your indexing really bad. You can just not worry about it & pick SM or CST to be legal. You can also run GS w/ street tire indexing and no one will care until you start winning. Lastly, you can get a stock hood & qualify for GS legally.

I'm sure it's somewhere in the 350 pages of rules, but save me from scrolling thru the pdf.

If c5 z06 goes to AS where does that put it in Street Prepared? Currently it's SSP, but I guess that's only for 2013.

Stock (or Street) classing has no relation to Street Prepared classing. A change in the stock class means nothing for a car's SP classing.

Hello all, the local class I ran in with my old region is not used here, so I need help reclassing the car. Just looking at the rules, it sounds like an ST-something/STU car?

2010 BMW 135i (3.0L twin-turbo, RWD)
- Full catback exhuast (stock catted downpipes)
- Adjustable Camber Plates
- 255/40 street tires on 17x8.5 wheels

Of note is that the car has an adjustable tune, which is very easily bypassed, and set back to stock if the additional boost would throw me into a prepared/mod class.

I am not sure how my car would be classed. It is a 2008 Saleen S302E, no internal egine mods beyond what Saleen did when they built the car, however, it does have a custom cooling system and an electric water pump as well as a 10% overdrive crank pully for the supercharger and long tube headers. Suspension wise it has a cortext adjustable coilovers with a cortex watts link, torque arm and reolcated rear control arms, BMR Front K-member and control arms and a complete roll cage. If you could give me an idea of where it would fall in classification that would be great. Also currently the car has Toyo Proxis 888 on it which are tread wear 100 would those need to be changed or is this car classified in a class where the tires are not restricted?

The engine mods (pulley change mostly) and non-stock K-member are going to push you higher up the national classing chain than you probably would like. You're looking at the lowest class possibly being Street Mod (SM), *if* the K-member doesn't change any inboard suspension pickup points and is not lighter than the stock part. If the k-member does either of those you're looking at X-prepared (XP).

Although if you just want to come out and have fun with it locally it is totally legal in california street mod (CSM) with the r888's on it or if you put tires with a tread wear over 140 you could run in california street touring (CST). My vote would be to get some street tires and run CST as it is a very popular class locally that generally draws a good amount of people to race against.

I don't know how laid back the CST'ers are, but I wonder if he could run his current tires until they wear out and then replace them with legal? Assuming he's not stealing all the glory of course. ;)

I raced under NoBucks back when Craig and Renee were still with us. God Speed Craig and Renee.

First: What is the minimum age for a Car racer if they have completed a formal performance driving school? My daughter is 15.9 years old with a permit and beginners training. She has over 1000 street miles logged.

Second: Is the 2014/15 Camaro Z/28 running AS with 200+ treadwear? Can I run 18" wheels that are 1/2" wider than stock (stock is 19x11 + 19x11.5) I have some 18x11 + 18x12's.

Third: How would I class a Chevrolet Volt with the engine disabled (bolted plug visible in the exhaust pipe, removable for street use). Have both 17x7's and 18x8's. Can it run in Electric with the 18's? What is the treadwear limit?

OR, if I just want to Run-What-You-Brung with 3800lb domestic cars, do I just go Time Only, or is there a catchall class?

Fourth: Am I on the right board? My user and password did not work, so I had to make a new one. I used to post on http://www.solo2.com.

Thanks in advance, can't wait to run again. (I'm registered SCCA, but have no idea about anything else. I did one practice last year in wifey's CTS-V)

SCCA defers to the local state rules on 'licencing'. So if she has a permit she can drive, but has to follow the same restrictions as on the public roads (e.g. 'Requires an Adult in the car'). Clear this with the event's particular management early though, they often don't know this national rule allowance and might balk at you wanting to be in the car.

Electric is just an artifact in our rule book. Nobody's ran there in the last 12 years (or perhaps ever). Stick with its proper real class (HS, SF?).

CST is likely what you'd consider 'catchall'.

The site got a big overhaul about 4/5 years ago, user names got re-done, but probably only for active people at the time.
