Return to AutoX

Post by Guy Walker »

Hi all!

I've been out of autox for quite awhile now and finally have a car that I can bring out and race. I'm looking forward to coming out again and am starting to get all my ducks in a row.

First off, I'm going join SCCA very soon and then I'll need a points card for next year - but I was going to wait until 10/1 to sign up for it to save a few $. I see my old number 123 is still available. Would I be too bold in asking for it or maybe even something lower like 81? ...or would I need to request something higher since I've been out for awhile?

Secondly, I use to be in SCNAX, but it appears people have moved around a bit. Can I just pick any club to join? I'm going to be driving a new 370Z, if that matters.

Lastly, although I've lost over 90 lbs over the last year my old helmet still fits... a SNELL SA2000 certified one. Is it still acceptable for use or do I need to get a newer one?

Welcome back.

SA2000 helmet is good. You can join any club you want, but no need to pick until next year really.

Club ... what car ? Ah ... looks like a Z-car ... it's off to SCNAX then. They're mainly the young party crowd ... and those desperately trying to hang on.

Of course you can join any club ... and you can take your time.

Welcome back! As Rick said, you can choose the "No Club" option for a year before choosing a club. As for numbers, generally we reserve the 1-199 range for our core members as defined by a) regular participation in local events, b) participation in national-level events and (most importantly) c) track record helping to stage our local events. I'll email you directly to tell you your options.

Yeah some of the original members moved around during a SCNAX lull, mostly to PSCC (Rick, Ken, me), some to CASOC (Will, Eckstrands). But now SCNAX has kinda built itself back into the club it originally was. Art's coming out pretty consistantly and they have good core and leadership going. Next event up is SCNAX owned.

thanks for all the feedback!

It looks like I may be needing some number/class magnetic panels... 123 RTR.

Jay, do you still make them? If, so how much for them? and how much for the class panel alone as I may still have my old number panel?

It's been a long time Guy. While you'll recognize some of us, you'll have lots of new friends to get acquainted with. I'd suggest coming out to our last three events this year and meeting everyone before making your team choice. As long as you choose by January, you can compete for the same team all year. I'll be looking forward to seeing you again. Welcome back!

Yep. Basic stuff is $40 for a set, just classes are $10 for a pair (basic stuff again).

Oh, and you may want to hold off on "RTR" for a bit longer, it might be in for another name change.

Jay,

I just signed up for the October events, so it looks like I'm going to need some numbers (123) since I found my old ones and they are quite brittle. Also, is there any word on the RTR class name change? I'll need class stuff too for my bone stock 370z - black numbers/letters on white panel would be great.

If you are going to the Sat SCNAX Cup or Sunday Champ, I could meet you and bring the $50 in cash.

Thanks!

As of the latest Fastrack, which in theory should be the rules for next year, a stock (non-NISMO) 370 on street tires is a "C Street" (CS) car, so those are the class letters you'll want for next year.
That particular question happens to be pretty important to me right now, but that's a different subject ;)

I wrote up a post explaining the changes to Stock/Street/RT* classes next year if you want to know more: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7491" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm actually super busy this week preparing for a trip and won't be this upcoming event. BUT, I'm making some temporary digits for Ken's SCNAX cup team that you can use the next day. I think I have some RTR's laying around too. We can get into a better design later, send me an e-mail if you have ideas. (woodrufj@jaycomservices.com)

Even if you know you'll be nationally classed CS next year, its very possible our region will put together some sort of SK class for 2014. So lets wait and see for 2014 letters.

Hi guy,

Make sure you buy your points card between 10/1 (when renewals open up) and the event, to make sure you get number 123. Otherwise, registration will assign you a 600-series number because they won't have you in the system yet.

thanks! that was my plan... but when I registered and paid for the october 6 champ event they made me select a number. I chose 623 since 123 wasn't on the list. I was hoping we could switch it from 623 to 123 at (or before) the champ.

thanks jay!

I do not have usable class letters but do have my old numbers that I can use but they won't be lasting very long (quite brittle). i'm not under any pretense that i or my 370z will be competitive, but I would like to be in a class that is correct for my car, convenient for me, and can still be somewhat competitive (in both local and possibly national events). i'm looking more for fun and camaraderie than winning at all costs.

don't get me wrong... I like to win and being 90 lbs lighter might be helpful in that regard!

in any case, I guess for next year i'll probably need some CS and SK? (when that's decided) letters along with new numbers. i'll probably need something for RTR class for the remainder of this year. I live a few blocks from ken, so maybe I should get in touch with him regarding stuff for the October champ.

Since classes from SCCA and how we implement them is up in the air I'd wait on class letters. RTR is definitely gone and we haven't decided on offering SK again. Numbers indicate that there may be enough in each Street class to make a class without combining. It may end up being the opposite of what it was, individual Street classes (140 TW) and SK would be the combined Stock classes on R tires. My head hurts. I would just use paper class letters for the rest of this year.

BTW, I gave Ken temporary stuff you can use (and hold on to). Including pairs of 1,2,3,cs,RT and Rs. Ken needs the numbers for Saturday though.

jay,

thanks! maybe I can use some of it but apparently the z's doors are not made of steel (aluminum it seems). my old numbers only sick to the fenders and not the doors!

i guess i'm going to have to look up the rules for numbers and class letters size and placement.

guy

PS: minimalistic, but rules eligible, numbers (8" high with 1.25" stroke) and class letters (4" high with 0.75" stroke) might fit on the fender between the front wheels and the door... i'm open to suggestions for door placement though! what do corvettes do?
