CAM is big in SDR. I was down there 2 weeks ago and there were 10 (very cool) cars in the class.
Since light is faster than sound...many people look bright until they speak...

I think David means CAM at the SD Tour? NorCal has some of the fastest ProTouring cars and drivers in the country. Some are/were top CM and SP cars. One national champion's car is pushing 850hp. I read Mary's car now has active aero, probably 500+hp, and is in the GT6 game.
These cars are many seconds faster than the local CAM class.

I signed up for the CAM class for the San Diego as it's the closest thing to CST they have at the tour.
I look forward to being thoroughly smashed by everyone, and watching Mary drive that car in it's current iteration.

Everybody needs to be aware the the rule book allows local regions to set their own year of manufacturer parameters for CAM. San Diego went with 1978 and OLDER and chose not to have a 1978 and newer CAM because of a lack of interest. The San Diego Tour is using San Diego's rule set. Only 1978 and OLDER is allowed.
I will double check with Sandi tomorrow, but when I requested a CAM class it was with the understanding we would use the San Diego rule set.
The reason is simple.....San Diego only has a CAM class because we had 6-7 people that stuck it out last year when they did not have a class, and had to take a beating from people on race tires, and far faster cars. It would not be fair, after all their effort, to allow people with ABS and other modern equipment to leap in, just because they built a lage class.

Whoops, I had signed up for CAM as it's the closest thing to CST in the SD region (200tw, 3000#). Didn't see the year limit. Updated my registration per the rules.

It's an ongoing issue with this class locally. I'm going to have to start printing a flyer and post it at our registration. Yesterday we got a car on slicks that entered CAM. The second event we got a 2007 Z06, whom when we explained it to him said 'so you are not going by the SCCA rule book!'.
It's just such a tempting class for some people. They might have their run flats on their daily, or just see a big class with a lot of cool cars. So far we are averaging 10 per event. Yesterday we had 8, which was our lowest of the year.

sounds like you guys need to rename your class now that the SCCA has taken your class name. I'm not sure how they handle supplemental classes but don't you have to offer CAM as per the SCCA rules for the tour?Warren Leach wrote:Thank you for understanding, Adam.

We did our home work Marshall, even double checked with Doug Gill that we were getting it right. We are exceedingly happy that the SCCA came up with this. It was all strangely sudden, but it saved us because we believed next year was better, and we were wrong. And I was as wrong as anyone.
