STR runs first group in the morning, but works late afternoon? Or, is the Tour like the Pro where you run twice a day?
Not like a local event where you only have to stay 1/2 day if you want. It's assumed for this type of event you're there all day. And it's normal to have a large amount of time between running and working so there is no waiting for workers to show or people to get in grid.
Yet, we can do it just fine at a Pro and run two heats a day?

On the plus side, it does give us plenty of time to go our for lunch.

Steve

You run your 4 runs back to back at the Pro on a shorter course. The 2 formats are different.
You have to be there all day for a Pro anyway.
Plus you need to walk the course at the end of the day Saturday as changes are made to the course and it is run in the opposite direction on sunday.

It's pretty difficult with the 5 group format for some class to not get stuck with a big break. But even with that said, that's not taken into consideration for National events anyways, only worker balance, having enough time between running and working, Open/Ladies class timing and if people remembered to let registration know...multi-class cars (cars that run in multiple classes can cause problems because of impound among other things). That's why they wait till Wednesday to post the Run/Work order.

We'll generally try and start early on Sunday (8 or maybe 8:30 although things can be different in SD) so the out-of-towners can get a jump on the drive home...

There's the difference... having previously only done Pro's, I didn't realize the Tour allowed so many entries.

Because there's only 6 runs (3/day) in a tour, whereas a Pro has 12 runs (4+4 morning/afternoon Sat, 4 morning Sunday), PLUS all the challenge runs afterwards for those who won their class.

Qualcomm Stadium
Competitors with valid concerns about the run/work order should speak with the National Field Staff on site. Any changes deemed necessary will be made at that time.
So Randy did anything change after Nicole posted the run order this morning?

Dang, rg5 for FS...kind of like to run earlier, so I can just chill and watch the action the rest of the day.

btw, for all the "first timers", relax...your first Tour doesn't have to be stressful and you just might surprise yourself. My first Tour (2005 at Atwater, my first year autocrossing) ended up better than I could have possibly imagined, going into it...just chill out, be ready when your number is called and enjoy the ride :)

This will be the first time I've arrived at a Tour or Pro on a Friday. [Amazing, isn't it?] I'm leaving central CA Friday morning and hope to arrive at Qualcomm Stadium in the early afternoon. What can I expect, traffic-wise, through the LA area around lunchtime on a Friday? I am thinking it might be easier to take 210 to 15 and go around instead of through.

Midday shouldn't be all that bad. My vote would be to just stay on the 5 the whole way. Another option is 210-605-22-5. That way you avoid downtown LA. Option 3 is when you come off the mountain, take the 405. That's 7-8 miles further than taking the 5 but is a much less stressful drive IMHO.

If you're coming through LA, plan on getting there between 10-11. Then you should have clear sailing all the way to SD.

Straught might lose an hour to traffic. Going around, you will lose an hour to extra distance. It is a gamble. In the middle of the day as others have said it probably is not too bad... and when it does get bad, so will the 210 (I have gone across at Tehachapi instead).

I would stay I-5 the whole way (until 805 to 52 to 15 to Friars).

If you hit the 5-210 split any time after 1 or 1:30 ish then maybe consider going across the 210 to the 605 or 57 and down to the 5. Bypasses downtown and the 405. You may still catch some traffic trough irvine and Mission Viejo though.

Would anyone staying at the Stadium allow me to keep my tires and a bin with them overnight so I don't have to lug them around? I'll be by myself and staying with friends in Santee, which isn't that close.

Listen to the traffic reports on the way down, if there's slowing @ the 55/Irvine/"The Y"/Mission Viejo, take the 73 toll road, ~$5 but FAST.

Does anyone know what time the stadium gates open/close?

Also, is anyone allowed on-site overnight?

My co-driver bailed on me for this weekend and I traveled all the way down from Oregon. I drive a highly modified FP class 914/6 with lots of goodies and fresh rubber. If you are interested, please call my cell. 503-330-4908. I am driving from LA to San Diego today and will be there later this afternoon.
