I found another forum error.

you can't add Steve Ekstrand to your foe's list because he's a moderator or admin. Can we fix that?

If we delete Marshall Grice it isn't a problem.

I need clarity here. From what I have gathered from some of these posts, there is/was a feature that would bring up the text of PP with out having to actually select the thread? Is that correct? If this is the case then having PP as a membership only feature is a reasonable solution as long as the new posts would show up in view new posts. But unlike the club forum which are hidden unless one is a member, there would need to be a permanent something on the board index to advise of its' existence. This would be a reasonable solution if the answer to my first question is yes.
Yeah, we can do that George. I'm working out the best way to do it so hopefully people can just add themselves if they wanna opt in on the PP. If I do that then I'll just change the search settings back to how they were before since people would be seeing what they wanted to see.

Aaron,
The way you have it now is that anyone can view the political paddock if they want to. That is the way it should be.
If you change it to the way George wants we will just end up having to filter the hate filled titles of their threads.

Leave it the way it is. This way if you want to get into the poplitical discussion, you can just view the forum. If you don't you are never exposed to it and I feel the majority of the region would desire to never have to deal with their rants.

Why would you "opt in" on the PP forum?

I think my biggest problem here is that the major players in this debate don't actually understand how the forum works, so they can't accurately weigh the options.

Ok, there we go, should be as described earlier now. Anyone can join. I added instructions to the description of the forum. If you aren't a member you can see that the forum exists and the instructions to join in the description. if you aren't a member you won't get nay of the posts in your new items list, if you are you will.

George if you wanna write up a "Join the PP" message in Off Topic I can sticky it for you.

I added the people who have started topics in the last month already.

Instructions are easy:
To Join click on User Control Panel, click on the Usergroups Tab, find Political Paddock, select it on the right, chose Join Selected at the bottom and click on Submit.

Looking at the 45 topics in PP, this is the worst title I could find: "He's such a sack of dung I have to post it again...."

I'd say "hate filled titles" is just a tad exaggerated ......... Not denying there have been some posts within some threads that were less than friendly.

Nope. I just resigned my membership and when I click on PP in the Board Index, all I see is "You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum." There is no description of how to join. Maybe as a Mod/Admin you see some things differently.

Look at the description before you click on it.

Rick. You have to click on "Off Topic" to see the instructions to join PP, since it is a subforum of that.

Ah, but to me that's not logical (my major in college was programming). If I want to go to PP and there is a hot link in the Board Index, why would I go to Off Topic first?

once you subscribe to that forum the hot link works. why would you, as a new person, not click on the off topic forum first before clicking the small shortcut link?

a little inefficient to step on every rock. Might was well ask why i hit view new posts instead of clicking on each forum individually.

Who says only a "new" person might want to join? Maybe someone who has been here since the beginning is curious after hearing about this terrible place. They see the PP link and click on it. That's what I did since I wasn't automatically in. If I hadn't already used the User Control Panel (which I don't consider to be very intuitive; everything is referred to as forums, including in the UCP description, but it's usergroups you click on) I would have had to hunt around awhile to figure it out. One of the little things I liked in Will's setup, if you clicked on a forum you weren't part of, you could click on a button right there to request to join.

BTW, none of this is a slam on Aaron, I appreciate what he does here.

If you opt in, how do you opt out if you find it despicable.

Thanks Aaron for you work on this and Rick for your input. I'm sure you guys will fine tune it as needed. Aaron, I think a sticky to introduce the forum is a good idea.

As for Art's question, normally I would suggest a lifetime ban from PP for the trouble he has caused. But, Art I truly hope you come back in. A little understanding about how the other side thinks would do you a lot of good. You can even keep the attitude if you want, just leave the personal attacks outside.

It was voted on at the meeting this week to have it back open in the "new topics" but with Moderators of the PP (chairman, vice-chairman, and treasurer). Because to play }:) 's advocate, if we "hide" PP topics, we'd have to hide EVERY "Off-topic". It's free speech Steve, so you just have to ignore the posts you don't want that's all.

Again when I have the minutes from our secretary I'll post for all to read.
