So in the Appendix of the 2009 Supp Reg it states:
NOVICE (NOV) and NOVICE LADIES (NOVL)
B) Eligibility: A person who has competed in 3 or fewer event weekends (practice,
championship or both in a weekend) in the last 5 years.
So this means after Sunday that I will no longer compete in NOV?
Also it states:
F) Year end points will be calculated for these classes based on the six best results
for each driver.
The six results seems to contradict the 3 event limit.
What am I missing here?
Michael.

Hmm... I can see how it can be interpeted that way.
I believe the original intent was for part B to apply to the first event in a year where you sign up for novice. If you are eligable to run in novice at that event then you are eligable for all the events after that during that year.
But I suppose the official word on that one needs to come from someone on the E-board, or maybe Curt.

the 'last 5 years' isn't inclusive of the current year.

Is it your intent to change the rules as of the April event?
When Tadd went into Novice it was based on three championships. Now the language seems to say anytime he got a chance to put a helmet on. Do I have to go back and count the Evo teen school or the Evo practice?
I've screamed for years about this region setting the rules for a competition after the fact. You CAN NOT DO THAT!!!!
Sounds like time to blow this place up again.....

Tadd's gunna win the class, no one else runs a nationally prepped car and no one is going to protest his Evo schools, so it really shouldn't matter Steve. No one ever policed novice as it was, and all classes are self policed anyway. People don't follow the HIST rules and no one cares.. same kinda deal. There are plenty of cars that run locally that aren't 100% legal to the letter of the rules, If no one in the class cares then it doesn't matter. That always seems to give the rules the leeway they need locally since most new folks won't be 100% in compliance anyway, it's certainly been true in every class I've run in locally at least.

So why ever run locally for anything?
Why do we bother with that stupid banquet?

BTW-this was posted in Jan from Mike that seems to say that SK classes are eligible for the Novice Challenge.

All I'm asking for is for people in Novice to be able to run in the SK classes if they are on street tires, which is what the supplemental regulations state:
C) Novice class competitor’s cars must be classed in classes that are outlined in the
SCCA Solo National rules or in the CSCC Solo supplementary regulations.
No need to retroactively change the results of previous events after they have been made official and no nitpicking about who is participating after the season has already started....

Practice, Testing, Driver Development, good natured competition without the stresses and rules lawyers of national competition, Hanging out with friends, Fun.
and to the other question, to hang out with our friends without the stresses of also having to run at an event.

I convinced Mike Smith to come out and give autocross a try (trying to build up team Disney

), thanks Mike for seeking clarification on this and not getting discouraged. Also, great job on already bringing in another novice with you
I'm sure the movers and shakers will work something out with the rules that will make things fair for all the novices.
