S2000 Brake thead
Ron Tsumura started a thread on S2000 brakes a while back when he was looking for new pads. I'm looking for pads too and can't find that thread, anyone know where it is? Maybe it was still on the old board.
My question is do i go stock or aftermarket? And should i go with high temp brake fluid? What type is best for the Honda S2000. Car and driver said the pads cause a lot of fade after a few laps.

IMO, stock pads and fluid or their equivalent are fine for autoxing your car. If you're changing it anyway, or plan on doing track days, use high temp fluid. I've run only stock pads in mine....no issues. However having driven a couple of S2k's with Hawk after-market pads (Ron's and Kathy's - perhaps others?), there is a slightly noticeable improvement in bite over the stock pads.....but could be dusting issues. You don't want a road-racing pad due to scoring of the rotors and also those particular pads need heat in them in order to function (hence why some drag their brakes etc. coming up to the line).
I replaced my stock front pads last year with stock ones again.....had thought of getting the Hawks but for some reason (timing probably), just went with the stock ones. It still has very good brakes compared to most cars - stock.

Ordered the stock replacements last night. Will be using Super blue fluid for some high temp protection. I will probably get a set of track pads (and rotors from what Reijo said) for track days.

Lets get this one going again...
I have been doing Porsche HPDE events on Streets of willow with continuous lapping. The brakes fade bad after 2 laps. I''m looking for a pad that will work well for higher speed AX (80 - 100mph), track lapping and our solo events. I have heard good stuff about Carbotech from Tim and others. I looked up specs on the carbotech AX6 (50 to 1150 degree) and the XP8 (200 to 1350 degrees). Both are said to be able to drive on the street (not recomended though). Also looking at rotors, so far cryostop looks good. affordable and said to be more durable than OEM.
Wanted to see if anyone had experience with these pads or had other suggestions.

On Karen's track Miata we're upgrading from Hawk HP+'s to Hawk Blacks. The Spec Miata folks I believe use Hawk Blues ... another step above the Blacks ...

I used hawk hp+ at the last time trials. no brake issues in 20 minute sessions trying to keep up with s2000 with cheater tires...

For AX I have been using Carbotech's AX 6 and Stock.
The carbotechs do give you a faster initial bite, good with R Compounds IMHO.
If the auto-x braking events are not that drastic,i.e. fastest part of track to the slowest, the stockers should be fine.
I ran the carbotech's at the Time Trials that KJ and I went to and loved them.
140+ tires might trip a little ABS with the AX6's.
I use ATE Blue DOT 4 as well. Good choice. Next time buy the gold ATE so you can see the color change during the swap.

George - I plan to get OEM size and spec (no slots or holes), so i should be ok as far as i know.
Pete, I think the carbotech website says not to use AX6 with R comp lol!
Hawk fans - I looked at the blues a bit, and i can revisit, not sure how well they will work getting to and from event!

I have been using the Carbotech pads for several years, I think they are green. They are way better then the stock pads. They do dust a little. I want to try the Hawk+ pads, but they don't have them for my car. I have to find some used brake pad backing plates to send in and have the pads attached.Wanted to see if anyone had experience with these pads or had other suggestions.

Stop focusing solely on pads. All they can do is delay the eventual heat soaking of the system. If you're lucky, you put off the heat soak point to after your 20 minute track session is done. A significantly more effective solution is to get air to the front rotors.

My car is driven in autocross and on the street. I just took off a set of Ferodo DS2500 pads because they produce a lot of dust and I am sick of having filthy wheels. They do have more bite than the stock pads, and are otherwise very well behaved on the street (no noise).
The Ferodo DS2500 is supposed to be an entry level track pad, similar in intent to the Carbotech AX6. I'll sell my half-worn set for half price (and that's halfway to the bottom of the wear indicator groove, not halfway to the backing plate).
Back when the AX6 was called Panther Plus, I ran a set on my Miata and they squealed all the time, not just when I was stopping. Just driving down the road at 35 MPH. I hope that Carbotech has improved that characteristic.
I use Castrol GT-LMA brake fluid, and have used Valvoline SynPower and ATE Super Blue. I didn't notice much of a difference between them. I won't use Super Blue again though. The blue dye stays in the system even after several flushes with clear or amber fluid. Both of my Miatas had aqua colored brake fluid in the reservoir when I sold them. The blue color also makes it impossible to see discoloration in the fluid.

Porterfield R4 pads and Motul 600. Plus I like taking my business to Andy because he gives fellow SCCA members a discount. He also sells more than just his own pads and will make pads in any material for any car. Same for braided brake lines. He's also a good guy who stood up for our Solo program when he was the Regional Exec.
