Hey, I designed my first AX course today!

So now I have a much greater and humbling respect for course designers or anyone that gives it a try. I did the BMWCCA event's course. And of course, I see the problems in the finished product. The course was a little slower than I wanted and perhaps too tight in places. I can see how hard that is to judge when laying it out. Ideas that were abstract to me before have now become more concrete. I really suggest that more people take a crack at this. There was a certain rush to driving a course you designed (a little more than a bit of fear, too).

And I will never criticize a course design ever again.

OK, I'll probably flip-flop on that promise.

I had a fun day despite the 110 degree heat.

Congrats, Tom.
We now have an idea of what you thought of the course, but what did the other drivers think. If you got egg'd, we should probably look elsewhere for another designer. If not, we can always use another.

I drove the course as an instructor and spent a couple hours instructing students. That was a fun course! There were a couple really technical turns that, if you drove the corner before them properly, led onto rippin' fast sections. If you overcooked the corner before them, you were crawling.

Guess what most of the students did.

I, for one, strongly suggest we allow Tom to do some course designs for our events, if his schedule permits.

Hmmm...1st place in class and second only to Henry Bjoin's Vette? I give your course a thumbs up Tom . I observed the same thing Mike saw when I was working the course. Lots of drivers plowing into corners going too fast and then struggling to correct instead of accelerating through the corners. Lots of slow in, fast out corners and more technical than a typical LA BMWCCA event, which is usually very narrow with little to no flexibility in the driving line.

What else? My Bimmer which is falling apart these days. Lately, the miles I've put on her are just to the shop and back. It actually caught fire recently too and I was very fortunate that it was extinguished before the whole thing burned down. Then yesterday, my car was overheating and I had to drive the 2nd practice runs and timed runs with my heater on full blast with the outside temperature already at 110 degrees...it was like a rolling furnace in there, and I was already sick to begin with . Haha...good times ;) .
