The full PNAS article for those that are dorks like me
It says the P2X7 receptor is also involved in certain seizures and Alzheimer's disease... maybe future applications could be to treat such disorders.
It was really interesting to me because I use Coomassie BB G-250 and R-250 daily in the lab. This compound is a corrosive and can irritate skin badly at the right exposure. I had no idea about the health benefit though.

Lily - um, ya gotta have .edu access to read the full paper. Or work for a VERY well funded company. Or have Avard's madd searching skillz.
The abstract is quite interesting though! It's not everyday that i have to look up a whole bunch of new words...but I never did take any molbio or later physiology classes. <shrug> Actually got a kick out of 'pia mater' which immediately struck me as a central Indian dish made of peas, soft, white cheese and some component of Ms. Zadora. Ew.
Okay, I'm showing my age...and my ignorance...and my inability to control a warped sense of humor.

Back when I was single, one of my four major food groups was "stuff from AM/PM". They used to have a "grape" drink that I would comsume by the 64 ouncer...at least twice a day. The resulting color was not purple and in fact, I'm not sure how many colors on the wheel it had to skip to get to green...
