The New guy from Kansas

Post by Donny Means »

Hello everyone I just recently moved back to CA form Wichita,KS And am looking forward to running some solo events with you guys/gals. I ran some solo events with the wichita chapter when i was out in KS. But CSCC seems to be alot more organized which is good. Anyway Im going to do a lot of reading before I ask any newbie questions but I plan to be out there soon so if you see a 2004 blue VW R32 with 6'4 guy driving it with a lost look on my face please give me a hand. :D

Hi Donny, Welcome back to CA. We're very fortunate here to be using two wonderful venues for our events.....the former El Toro Marine base and AAA Speedway. If your available this coming weekend, we're making our final visit to El Toro. Come join us if you can. We'll be looking for you.

Thanks for the welcome George. So after reading up on some stuff my understanding is that i need to purchase a SCCA membership and then a points card if i want to but not required. And i need to be invited to practice's? At first i would like to just go out and run im not worried about points i just want to go push my car. I have'nt owned this car for long and im coming from a SVT focus so im intrested to see how it does with AWD, Maybe later if i feel im even a contender i will get a points card. If i come out to El toro this weekend would i be able to run probably not right since i did'nt mail a check in? If i come out id like to drive since it's a 1 hour and 45 min drive one way for me from Rosamond,Ca.

All you need is an SCCA membership which can be purchased for the weekend for $15 or a yearly membership. Both can be arranged on site. Everyone gets in on Sunday. More people and fewer runs than Saturday. If you showed up on Saturday, chances are good you'll get in as a stand-by, but not guaranteed.

But if you look to the hills at about 285 degrees from you current position, there's a wonderful track just minutes away if you want to get your fix.

Welcome! I don't know how much of the local rules you've read, but if your car is on street tires, we have two street tire indexed classes. The one a R32 runs in is called SK2. So when you sign up, your regular class would be D Stock, and your index would be SK2. I'll look for you out there on Sun., if you're planing to come. I'm driving in the same class and index as you, in a white Infiniti G35 sedan.

I've never gotten any curb rash driving on the track either, not even the few times when I've dropped a wheel.

True i guess it wont matter if the surface is nice. Im just thinking of the solo events we ran in wichita the parking lots were terrible all cracked with holes ETC it was real bad lots of losse gravel also.

Donny ... you can spend the whole day getting a LOT of rides with us. My buddies that came to the last event, ex-road racer had a great time ... he couldn't believe the g forces and the feeling of speed that we developed. Please just make sure you sign up for the temporary weekend SCCA membership ... required even for ride alongs.

Please ignore Max. He's not "normal," being a furriner.

No, I think it's much funnier to pay attention to what Max is saying. The key is to read everything as if it were with a british accent.

Well I have. But that was a long time ago and the curb rash ended up being the least of the problems.

Donny, what city are you moving into. San Diego isn't all that much farther from many places and can double your fun.

Well San Diego is quite a bit farther for you then. By the way, there's a RallyX up in California City on Sept 19th and 20th if you want to see what that's all about.

Think "rental."

Now think "Cheapest rental I can find" and you're getting closer...

And be sure to get the extra inssurance right... Ha ha. Hey can i leave my subwoofer and amp in the car for the practice tommorrow asuming i get in as a stand by. Its bolted into the car and would be a huge PITA to remove I wish it wasn't in the car at all but it was there when i bought it and it is a nice piece.
