Thanks to the Clements!

Post by Tom Berry »

I would like to send a special thanks to Mari and Eric Clements.
Christine, Marshall and I got a bad tank of diesel fuel in western Nebraska at a little "mom & pop" type station/eatery/local yocal hang out kinda place. ( Hint... this is a bad idea ). We made it to about 40 miles outside of Denver on I-76 before the fuel filtration system had given its all, and the truck would no longer run. Mari and Eric came by about an hour later and rescued us. They drove Christine to the local parts store(s) to get an OBD2 reader, in-line pump, and some fresh diesel fuel. Then they stayed with us, helped keep the batteries on the truck charged up via jumper cables, helped hand pump and crank for the next 4 or so hours untill the engine finally came alive again. They also followed us into Denver where they were treated to their hero's dinner ( Carl's JR ).
Our early alternatives to the "side of the road repair" were costly and time consuming, so their help was, needless to say, a life saver. They ended up delaying their return home by many hours to help us on our way, so I wanted to make sure that they, and the rest of our local group know how much we appreciate all their efforts.
Also, for those of you that did not know this..... Mari and Eric will be the event chairpersons for the 2010 Solo Nationals in LIncoln next year. This is a HUGE time and effort committment on their part, and I for one will be there supporting them however I can.
Thanks again to Mari and Eric.

Lucky we have people like the Clements!

Didn't the tow vehicle poop out last year also ... while the old one that Henry got is still running strong and reliably. :D

Last year was the truck... this years failure has to go to the driver ( Me )
And yes... as far as I know, Henry's is working just fine.

Algae, microbes, and water contamination
There has been much discussion, as well as misunderstanding, of algae in diesel fuel.[17] Algae require sunlight to live and grow. As there is no sunlight in a closed fuel tank, no algae can survive. However, some microbes can survive and feed on the diesel fuel.

These microbes form a colony that lives at the interface of fuel and water. They grow quite rapidly in warmer temperature. They can even grow in cold weather when fuel tank heaters are installed. Parts of the colony can break off and clog the fuel lines and fuel filters.
The truck is AWESOME (when working properly), It pulls the enclosed trailer up to the Eisenhower Tunnel (highest point in the interstate highway system) at 70 mph and barely even considers downshifting.
