Autocross at Camarillo Airport October 18

Post by Lisa Severy »

The Ventura County Corvairs Club is putting on an autocross at Camarillo Airport on October 18 that is open to all makes and models that pass the tech inspection. The format is 4 electronically-timed runs in the morning and fun runs at time permits. It is a work-run event. The number of entrants will be limited to 60, first come-first served, so preregistration is strongly recommended. The cost is $50 per driver. Loaner helmets will be available, as will be food and beverages (at an extra cost). The surface is slurry-coated asphalt. For those of us who live in Ventura County and Western LA County, it is a nice chance to have some fun, meet new people and see some classic Corvairs. Being in Camarillo, the weather is always nice (80 degrees F about max on a "hot" day). As a former Corvair owner-enthusiast (I won my first SCCSCC championship in one in -OK - never mind that date), it is fun to see them still out and competing! Also, if you are going to enter this event and you live locally, we could use some help setting up the course on Saturday, October 17 (I will be there). Course elements usually include all the elements we see at the Solo2 events. To enter, send your check for $50 payable to Ventura County Corvairs to:
Timothy Chew C/O Top Cat Auto
4235 State Street
Santa Barbara, CA 93110.
For more information, call Tim at 805.680.1495 or e-mail Tim at service@topcat auto.com
Registration and tech open from 7 - 9 AM. Because this event occurs at an active airport, special traffic controls apply when going to & from the gate (e.g. aircraft have the right-of-way). By the way, if you like airplanes, Camarillo has a lot of antique/old military aircraft, which we will get to enjoy watching take off and land all day.

I'm signed up. Can't wait! Will be a nice lil weekend getaway :).

For those of us who haven't been to a Corvair autox before, are there directions (where to go, etc) anywhere? I'm still waiting for a reply from Tim regarding that.

THANKS!

Last I heard, spaces were still available for next week. If you want to go, send your money in to Tim Chew ASAP.

Do you know if it's 4 timed runs and a few practice untimed? Or just 4 runs during the entire day?

I called this morning.. He said its 4 runs. Then after everyone gets in the 4 runs, its 4 more fun runs for $4 more dollars (if there is time)

So if im understanding correctly, 8 runs for 54 dollars..

so $50 for 4 runs. (guaranteed)
$1 per run after, max 4. (time permitting)

is it worth the drive...still debating.

Only 60 entrants ... so we've gotten plenty of runs in the past.

I've driven further & paid more for less runs. It's always good to experience different venues - seat time is seat time. And the car I'm taking to this event averages about 17-20mpg, lol. Still worth it to me.
