Looking for recommendations for what to use on PC

Why?
Because I used the free Windows Movie Maker 2.x on Vista to import from my digital cam corder of DV video (it is an Mini-DV Sony) and
then I trimed the beginning and end,
and then saved it to DVD qualy which played fine on my PC and looked reasonable, but after uploaded to youtube it looked horrible...
Then saved it as DV-AVI which played fine om my PC and looked good, but after 2 upload attempts to youtube I still only get the audio, no video...

So I am looking for some software to give me more options as far as formats and quality to save to after editing the source video.

BTW, my Canon SD800IS digital still pocket camera w/video is great in that I can trim the the beginning and end on the camera, download to computer and upload to youtube and it looks great!!!

- Includes Sound Forge Audio Studio 9
- Includes 1,001 Sound Effects
- Includes New Blue 3D Transitions and Effects

which seems to be the only diff to "Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro Pack"

Yep! These packages have really come down in price for what you get. I paid a lot more for that equiv functionality.

BTW, the snapshots from the video is from Windows Movie Maker as I did not figure out right away how to do a full res video snapshot with Vegas but played some more after posting and found how to do it.

I just might have to spend the $ to get this one.

If you really spent the time, you could get Movie Maker to output nicely to YouTube (takes a lot of trial & error tho).

I've been using Sony Vegas for the past month or so for work. The best thing I like about it is that it has a HUGE YouTube user base - there are literally thousands of tutorials on youtube showing you how to do all sorts of stuff.

Sound effects are fun! Pro pack all the way!

Yeah, last night I realized that possibly the upload to youtube of my Win Movie Maker DVD qualy file might have not been finished processing because last night it came up and said that on one of my clips but let me play it and it looked really pixelated and horribly but when I looked at it later after the processing message was gone it looked good.

Moving back and forth frame by frame to find the split point used to work well in Win Movie Maker om my XP system, but on my Vista system it does not - the displayed frame is skipping around and making it difficult.
This worked much better in Vegas, but I wish they had a frame forward/reverse button (in addition to dragging the display point thingy, and dragging the other forward/reverse thingy - yeah, that is the accurate technical term for it...

Only way I've been able to go frame by frame so far: zoom in pretty much all the way & use the arrow keys.

not sure what the other thingies are, but I agree with you - there's certain "intuitive" things that you'd expect from a video editor that just aren't there in Vegas. For the price though, it really can't be beat.

the current version (and last few revisions) is suppose to have support for avchd (not sure what the difference between that & lite is). you can download the trial (fully functional for 30 days) & test it out.
