What type of wing would me ideal for a SSM miata?

Post by Christos Adam »

Hey guys, I was wondering what kind of wing you think that will be ideal for a SSM miata?
I know that a lot of people are saying good things about the GT II wing from APR (like Chris' SSM car below)... is there anything else out there that I should be considering?

I'm thinking of going aero shopping sometime soon...

I believe that the type of rear spoilers you mentioned are not that effective since you get very turbulent flow of air down there (at the rear trunk lid area) but these people usually run CSP so they are not allowed to have a real wing.

Chris, speak with Richard Jung. He'll set you up with the APR stuff. He can mix and match foils, provide custom uprights and endplates, and basically help you dial it in to be as effective as possible on a minimal budget.

If you're in no big rush, I believe he is coordinating with APR for a new foil shape that should be more effective than the current lower foil on the GT II.

Oh, and yes... I'd definitely go with the wing vs a spoiler, and see if you can set it up so it's around 4"-5" above the windshield. The SM rules permit no part of the wing to be more than 6" above the roof, so you should be quite safe there while getting good effect.
