4.3 Turns Safe for Lug Bolts?

I bought new cone seat lug bolts so I can use aftermarket wheels on the Audi.

Is 4.3 full turns of engagment safe to use?

HELL NO!

general rule of thumb. thread engagement equal to bolt diameter.

in this case:
4.3x1.5=6.45mm of engagement....bolt size=14mm.

btw, there is still a gouge in the pavement at spring mountain where i ripped all the lug bolts out on my gti and the brake rotor dug in after the wheel fell off. that was almost 4 turns on a m12 bolt.

Here how it happened:

Shop only sold 30mm and 23mm M14/1.5 cone seat lug bolts, so I ordered and picked up the 30s.

Stock ball seat lugbolts came out 20mm from the back mounting pad of my ball seat stock wheels.

The cone seat lugbolts came out 25mm from the back mounting pad of my aftermarket cone seat wheels.

I measured my stock lugbolt length: 25mm
"30mm" Cone seat lugbolt length: 32mm

Ok! Looks like all their measurements are off by 2mm!
I'll just buy the 23mm units and be fine.

Wrong! I measure some of these "23mm" cone seat lugbolts. Some are 21mm and some are 23mm.

convert to threaded studs and lug nuts... end of problem.

i think Marshall had some red loctite on those studs.

i can't remember exactly what the circumstances were, but i do remember that we weren't exactly surprised when we found out his wheel flew off..
