Autocross Event in Ventura County (w/Permission to Post)
Permission to post granted by Mike Simanyi and KJ Christopher.
If you live in Ventura County or Western LA County (or, if you are like me and willing to drive over 100 miles to autocross): The Ventura County Corvair (VCC) club is hosting their event on Sunday, May 23 at Camarillo Airport. The cost is $50 (prepaid), which includes lunch. For this you get four timed runs and fun runs (as may as time allows). The club is looking to see that everyone gets at least 9 laps. Entries are limited to 60. It is a work/run event. Currently, there are many spaces still open. The courses are second gear and last 60 seconds or so. Tech and registration open at 7:00 AM. First car out at 9:00 AM.
VCC has been hosting events at Camarillo Airport since 2001. I have run in at least three of their events, and find that each one has been better than the last. Tim and his club work hard to make these events fun. They have invested in new cones and "professional timing equipment".
I'll be there!

I would love to do this but it conflicts with the Wendover pro solo, maybe next time. I heard the airport is active, would be fun to see the planes taking off/landing.

Jo Ann and I will be there also trying out our new Mazdaspeed 3.
They put on very nice events.

Planes, cool Corvairs and an autocross? I'm in! Maybe someone can give me a ride around the course in a Greenbrier van. (Okay, my bucket list is modest!)

Mako, dumb question here. Do the planes have the banners on board when they take off and just push them out?

Not Mako, but the planes have a hook on a line and they come back and make a pass to hook into the banner (which is on the runway) at speed.Theo Osifeso wrote:Mako, dumb question here. Do the planes have the banners on board when they take off and just push them out?

I wonder what it feels like in the plane from the sudden drag of the banner.

The Lynches are going to bring their new MazdaSpeed 3 (with RE-11's) ... unfortunately we couldn't convince Bob to bring out his new ZR1.
If you want to know the secret to Eternal Youth ... you should have seen the smile on George's face as he showed off his almost rice street racer ...
Check out that WRC inspired rear wing!

ZR1's exhaust is so much better than a stock C4's, which had two tips per muffler, but only one was functional. If I had a C4, I'd either a) replace the exhaust system entirely, or b) take a little flat-black spray paint to the inside of that dummy tip, to make it match the soot-covered one!

If you like planes ... you'll see them up close and personal at this event.
Note my angle on this plane ... I was pretty close!

I really wish I wasn't going to be out of town... Only a 40 minute drive instead of the usual 2 and half hours, and planes!

Yup, Jo Ann said that George verified that their C6 Z06 had those butterfly valves. I'm going to have to listen for it next time.
