Why yes, I DID win my 2nd Western States Champs....

Post by Bill Schenker »

...And PAXED 6th, using 2 year old, multi-heat cycled tires and having no co-driver (one of only two in the PAX top 20 - the other being the great Bob Tunnell in 2nd).

The calls of congratulations have been non-stop and I'm so sorry I haven't been able to return the scores of calls and emails. Let me use this post as a way to do that.

Now please resume the normal programming, telling us all how bad Obama is...

(and thanks, Mako, for saying congrats on Gio's Wendover results thread!)

(and yes, I'm fully aware of the can of "give Bill crap" that I'm opening here - but all kidding aside, I am a little hurt that other than Gio, Tom T., Patch, Toby and Mako, no one has said anything - it was a pretty darn good result, given all the "handicaps" that I listed above. As penance, maybe Georgie and Company would have to tell me one good thing that Obama has done.... )

Peace.

Obama didn't nominate Goodwin Liu to the SCOTUS (instead he nominated the second worst person in the country).

Consider though...

People don't really know about your handicaps (well, the new ones anyway) and they don't think about those things. And the fact you won CSP and paxed well is not something that surprises anyone.

If anything, you should be more flattered. If tons of people contacted you saying "OMG@!!!!!! BILLLLL!!!!! YOU ACTUALLY WON!!!!!"... that would be worse.

Just saying.

Congrats. :)

And don't try and butter me up, just so you can get to drive my car! And you you already said congrats, Randy, but I'll take it again.

And what is the deal with your car, Randy? Good, I hope!

Well.... now that I have you online...

No. Spun #3 rod bearing. Damaged rod. Possibly damaged crank. Mech is saying the engine should come out. The car will be down for some time. I am hoping to have it ready by Packwood. I will miss the Divisional and Lone Pine. :(

Do you have a recommended builder?

So do you have room in the car for Andrea and I? Since it may rain, I would rather run something AWD in SSM (Paging Tom Berry... Tom Berry to the courtesy phone) but I will take a CSP car and hope for the best. We can use Andrea to make the CSP class and if meets SSM weight, I can run it in SSM.

Thoughts?

we already have that car in two classes, neither of which are SSM. Pro's don't let you run a car in more than two classes (ladies included), unfortunately.

Damn! So sure, you can run my car in SSM - what's min. weight? My car weighs ~1960lbs. And Andrea runs CSP Open to fill the class.

The only problems I foresee is: A.) The car has no power steering (no comments Toby/Patch). And, B.) The tires on the car won't last 36 runs - these are 2 yr. old tires that have about 40 runs on them and they usually cord at about 50-60. Now I do have another set that were sticker tires Sat. afternoon @ the El Toro Pro that I was going to hold in reserve if the tires on the car corded or I needed good tires to win and then use them @ the Divisional.

But, I have an idea: if Andrea can overcome the lack of power steering (Keiko from New York drove my car @ the Lincoln Pro last year and this year @ the S.D. Tour), and if you or Andrea want to race the car @ the Divisional, we can use the good tires at some point in the weekend, and one of you race with me in the car (I don't have a co-driver yet for the Divisional) @ the Divisional and you get me some kind of equivalent tires to use (as it is now, racing by myself, I have enough won tires that I don't need to buy any through the end of the year - if we use the good tires @ Wendover, I'd need to buy another set of good tires for the Divisional.

Make sense? Just call me and I'll try to make it clearer. I think this is very workable and I think Andrea will be able to drive my car fine. I really don't want to put all this wear and tear on the car, but for you guys, I'll be happy to do it and this way, will be assured of having a class @ Wendover and not have to race against Tom, Marshall and Jason and their evil boosted cars in a bump class!

And thanks so much, Gerogie....I think.

P.S. I chose: "...is still the Man" in filling in the blank.

If you keep the car moving fast enough, you don't need power steering.

Congrats, Bill!
