Invitational Practice - 6/12-13 at AAA Speedway

Post by Gayle Jardine »

To those of you who missed the 1st Annual TCC Invitational Practice, you missed a fun event. This was an Invitational Only event. We invited the E-board, the club reps and several others who have supported our sport all year - this was to be a THANK YOU. We had hoped to have 45 drivers, but oh well, things interferred. Next year, we may even add a Kid's Kart course. We had a total of 25 different drivers that participated with a lot of different passengers and a ton of extra bodies that just worked. I think that we completed more than 330 runs each day (334 on Saturday and 336 on Sunday.) TTOD on Sat was: Eric in the Kart - 35.150 and Lisa in the car - 41.226. Sunday TTOD was Lisa with a 42.136.

Brain, I mean Brian Robertson, was our Safety Steward. And on Sunday he brought donuts - they were delicious. Almost everyone behaved themselves, except the squirrel in the Corvette - Brain.

Lisa and Ryan Severy, Kathy and Doug Teulie, Bill Chin, and Hi Ly (Hee) and several others that I am not aware of gave rides and driving tips. I feel that we may see some new solo recruits come from your efforts. We had alot of spectators - racers, corvette club and mazda enthusiastes as well as the Cal Club raly guys.

Everyone pitched in and helped change the course on Saturday afternoon. Our intention was to run the same course both days, but when everyone got so many runs on Saturday we felt it was better to run the opposite direction on Sunday. Both courses seemed pretty even (40-50 seconds both days, except for Eric in the Kart - 35 seconds.)

A plethora of Cal Poly guys came out on Sunday and worked to unload and then re-load the trailer. I am SO glad that we could help out with their final testing. I thought the car worked GREAT! Good luck this week at the competition. I know that I am not supposed to show favoritism, but I'm rooting for the Home Team - GO CAL POLY POMONA!

Bob and Maggie worked tirelessly all weekend long including Friday to make this event work and they didn't even get to drive (except that Bob made a few laps in John Stewart's car.) Most people didn't even know that Maggie was there - she stayed in the motorhome and recorded everyone's times. I hope to get a set of results out maybe next week. This week is all tied up with FSAE.

I am so sorry that the RIT guys only got to cross the start line and then break a major frame piece. I hope that they get it fixed for this week's competition - Good Luck Guys!

I hope everyone had a good time both at the solo and on the track tours and will hopefully want to come back next year.

Thank you,
gayle

I'm guessing there's a message here for the rest of us that didn't get invited :ugeek:

I want to thank Bob and Gayle Jardine for putting this event together! I know it was a ton of work. Thanks also to Brian Robertson for coming out to be Safety Steward. Thank you to Maggie for timing/announcing.
Ryan and I had a great time! Bob did a great job and designed a fun and challenging course for us. It required patience and discipline, but what a rewarding feeling to nail the lines and get the lap times down! This was a great opportunity for Bill, Ryan and I to get more familiar with my new car before the Divisional. And yes - we did get plenty of runs!
I especially enjoyed the feeling of community and family we shared over those two days. I really enjoyed the comraderie of the folks who were there. I hope we can do it again next year!
